What bothered me the most about our D

Nov 26, 2018, 4:19 PM

is we knew the only game they had was to throw 75+% of the time and we still couldn't stop it. That said, in 2016 we had some games we gave up more points than we should have and still won the NC.

I think most of the problems came down to scheme and getting plays in quickly. On most of their long plays they had a slot receiver in man coverage on a safety and our coaches should know that if you expect a safety to man cover Deebo all night he’s going to get open.

IMO we would’ve been better served bringing in a true nickel CB instead of Simmons to give us more athleticism since we knew they couldn’t run.

I think focus was a big problem too--the D overall didn't

seem very dialed in, sort of lackadaisical, like they expected the Gamecocks to show up and keel over. It really seemed like the fanbase and the D had the same mentality, expecting to sleepwalk to a beatdown and when it didn't happen it was too late to take it seriously.

So you’re saying...

The “we can’t overlook _____” crowd might’ve been right for once? Don’t give them the satisfaction.

I think a little more likely: getting off for thanksgiving messed with the schedule a bit on top of looking past the coots and them running tempo all caused us to not be as sharp as we’ve gotten accustomed to.

On the 75 yarder before the half, Deebo lined up and we

flanked out Cle, who covered the flat and Deebo got a free realese into the secondary, where he was full speed when he ran past K'Von

I don't think it helped that Lamar was out

He's not covering anybody either though***

Yep - that was "trips right" and we had the wrong call on that play..... all over the field.

Any formation where we have a DE lined up on a WR is a bad

call...I'm honestly surprised it took 12 games to expose it
