10/03/1981
Lexington, KY

(14)Clemson - 21
Kentucky - 3

A week after dethroning the National Champions Georgia at home, Kentucky stymied the Clemson offense for the first half in 1981 and led 3-0 at halftime. The only score coming off a Kentucky 40 Yard FG. But the game quickly turned in Clemson's favor, and the Tigers stormed back for 21 second-half points behind touchdowns by Kevin Mack, Homer Jordan, and Chuck McSwain. Clemson held Kentucky to 97 second-half yards. The Tigers ran their record to 4- 0 with the win and moved into the top 10 in the polls for the first time since 1959 after the victory. After the game, Danny Ford commended his players for their poise, and, from here on out, Clemson would start to demolish teams en route to the National Title.

As I recall we opened with them about the second or third year of the Hootie Error. Everyone was all fired up and yelling as we kicked to them. The late Doug Kotar took the kick all the way back for a td. Talk about the air going out of a stadium.

I was at that game. Little did I know how the season would end up.
Kentucky fans were most gracious to us. Had to explain a few times
where Clemsson was on the map. By now however, I would suspect most know.

Pitt vs UsuC the line was -7. It was a national game. When the score was Pitt 35-0 and ABC pulled the plug. Riding back from Kentucky we had to watch Missouri play somebody. Dan Marino threw six touchdown passes. We all paid for our trip on that bet.

As I recall...

William Perry had a would-be "scoop and score," but the rules back then prohibited the defense from advancing a fumble. Still a most athletic play.
