May 20, 2013, 9:58 PM

The sandy relief was completely different due to the fact that only half of that original bill would go to sandy victims while the other half was pork filled. If you ask me, those congressmen and women who stuffed all their little pet projects into a bill aimed to help folks after a natural disaster are the ones who are shameful.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

fraction of the aid Sandy victims got, and they'll be back on their feet much faster. Nashville floods, Joplin twister, this one, Tuscaloosa tornado, whatever.....conservative communities look out for each other and help each other. Not so much in urban areas where everyone is dependent on corrupt government services. A month from now this twister will not be covered by the media, a year or two from now the community will rebuild, but even then you will still be talking about Katrina and Sandy.....two shining examples of liberal, urban areas that will never recover.

Maybe some day you will understand why....

It's not like there are any good beaches there or anything. Just pick up and move to higher ground and keep all the goodness - jazz fest, maybe one of those Las Vegas construction companies could recreate bourbon street :)

Could easily make that happen if you forced the state of La. to pay for future flooding issues so they don't take money from the rest of the country.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

But if someone on a MSM show even suggested such a

May 20, 2013, 9:37 PM

thing they would be laughed (or yelled) off the set, yet in reality it is the most logical thing.

Sort of damning to the whole system that he truth isn't even in the discussion, much less the decision.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: This is exactly the problem

May 20, 2013, 9:24 PM [ in reply to And when this is all said and done, they'll get a minut ]

The mentality is that we can't recover without Uncle Sugar. We can't find a job so Uncle Sugar should support us. My pinky toe hurts so I need disability, etc.

Here's the solution - you want to live on the coast or in tornado alley, you want to live in SoCal with yearly fires, you want to live where flooding happens every year then you need to be prepared to dig yourself out and depend on your state - NOT Uncle Sugar.

Hurricanes Fran and Hugo cost me weeks of recovery each time and Uncle Sugar didn't give me a penny and that's the way it should be.

Federal gov shouldn't be involved (at all). All they have done is muck up the system and oh by the way inflate the cost of higher education. (as they have with healthcare).

Re:Nope, just avoiding federal taxes. I'll still pay local

You should direct your anger at a "non revenue producer". You know they're out there. They outnumber those that actually need assistance. I would say those are the selfish, greedy scum that you should be angry with.

2009_nascar_champ.gif flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Not stealing, I've made an investment. Enough for me,

my family, and many more.

One thing to note here that you probably aren't aware of is that my belief is that communities will provide many of the needs of those that are disadvantaged. Fix their homes, repair their cars, provide food banks, etc. I know that the federal system doesn't work, so doing these things locally is essential. That's what I will be doing in 5 years, not taking money from the fed.

But I understand your mindset and how you don't believe localities can handle these types of things and it also shows in the liberal leadership in DC that they believe that as well.

Re:And just for record regarding my desire to let states...

do what they can for their local issues. My family has owned property that was devastated by Hazel, Hugo and Fran. We recovered without federal or state help because we were prepared to address our own issues. They were in fact, our issues because of where they were located.

And I do not want one dime of your federal money helping my children's education - that is a state/local/personal issue.

/kid

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I pay for my kid's education.

May 20, 2013, 9:47 PM [ in reply to how selfish can you be? ]

...and then I pay taxes for your kids education as well (since we're making gross assumptions here).

I don't get anything from the government. Go ahead and don't pay your taxes. Nearly half of Americans don't. Is that you per chance?

Since I kissed my wife New Year's Eve until next Tuesday, I will have worked for other people to get benefits I do not get. Food Stamps, Medicaid, education, housing assistance, student loans, etc. Next Wednesday I will earn MY first dollar this year that will not go to other people.

You can look at the dollar amount I am left with and be as angry as you want, but I've donated 5+ months of my time working to pay for other people. Then I give my church another 5 weeks of earnings. How selfish am I?

You tell me....

Re: Oklahoma Republicans said NO to disaster relief for

Tigerboy, you are not correct. You and others love to play these half truth politically oriented games. You run from truth and thrive on political attacks. The Republicans approved some of what was requested and promised approval for all that was requested pending the funds being found in the existing budget. It needed only to have unnecessary waste being cut from some other area of the budget to provide the funding. Being truthful is not that difficult. Try it, you may find it refreshing.
