Panthers are in for some rough years

Dec 23, 2019, 10:03 PM

After firing longtime head coach Ron Rivera earlier this month, Panthers owner David Tepper indicated he was leaning toward offensive-minded candidates who are willing to use analytics.

These analytics also told NFL teams to draft Mitch Trubisky as soon as possible. Unless owners allow their coaches to start using their gut instincts to call plays, the NFL will turn into a league of robots on and off the field.

Well I’m a lifelong Bucs fan...

Because they are focused on analytics? That makes no sense hence the HUH?

Oh, I'm sorry. I assumed you read the rest of it where

I gave an example of how the analytics the NFL uses suck

One example data point does not make a rule.

Draft busts have happened since the beginning of the league.

I just don’t understand why the Trubisky example should be extrapolated to the Panthers.

How about the old analytics of Tony Mandarich or Ryan Leaf?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'm sure Seattle's analytics told them to pass it

on the 1 yard line in the Super Bowl instead of handing off to their mack truck of a running back. Point of the argument is that sometimes you have to let coaches be coaches. Otherwise, you can just have the owners run their analytics from their offices and call plays themselves.

Analytics are just tools to help people make decisions

Dec 23, 2019, 10:50 PM

Generally they just help to make decisions that increase the odds of success. Nobody has ever claimed they guarantee success.

You mean like Mike Ditkas gut instinct to trade all

Dec 23, 2019, 10:42 PM [ in reply to Oh, I'm sorry. I assumed you read the rest of it where ]

his picks for Ricky Williams?

What made that trade even funnier

Dec 23, 2019, 10:49 PM

is how Washington didn't get a single good player out of it except for Lavar Arrington. What was it? 6-7 picks

hell it can’t be worse than this year

Dec 23, 2019, 10:58 PM

I have faith in new ownership. Tepper has ties to one of most successful franchises in history of NFL-Pittsburgh Steelers. He isn’t going to settle for mediocrity. He has said that much and has shown it by cleaning house. Newton will be the next chip to fall after season is over. Might take 1-2 years to rebuild but I think they will be fine.

Don't care. I follow the Tigers in the NFL. That's my analysis.

I dont think there is a team in that state that I want to be successful. I hope they dont tank to get T.L. I'm afraid that's part of their master plan though

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Analytics should be telling them

Dec 24, 2019, 12:20 AM

“Tank for Trevor.”
