It's the only location in proximity to the SEC with an existing full ESPN studio (ESPNU). By putting it there, it lessened startup costs and allowed show technicians, camera crews, etc to move on to the SECN without relocating.

Well , aside from the occasional pro sports team nothing ever lives too long in Charlotte.
SEC shoulda thought that one through. Isnt one of their major university outposts a better option ?
