Observation about why we struggle with elite programs like Vandy

These teams have mastered the recruiting and the philosophy of attention to detail, offensive plate discipline, dominant power starting pitching (Corbin is literally one of them best in the country at this), elite bullpen, and the recruitment and development of top tier position players. Monte has managed to bwhin cultivating a few of these listed (solid bullpen, a few elite positions players their past few years of recruiting, and pretty decent plate discipline). Not enough time to get into it now, and hopefully David Hood can reference the specific interview, but I’ll refer to the Seth Beer story that ran, I think, a few weeks ago where- during his recruitment- Seth even recalls Monte even telling him and assuring him that he was going to be able to focus on “less small ball”, since apparently that wasn’t at the heart of Monte’s coaching philosophy, and more on developing true power hitters. At the risk of making this way too long of a post, I’ll go ahead and make my point: until Lee and staff decide and make a coaching philosophy commitment to recruiting and developing guys who are able to sustain elite small ball play, dominant starting pitching, top-tier bullpen guys, and can consistently recruit and convince the top position high school players to come on campus (meaning, keeping them from going into then MLB draft straight out of high school), then, to be fair and honest here, we really shouldn’t be expecting this program to constantly reach Supers and CWS’s every year. It may happen every several years, but not yearly. You simply have to be better at the things that get you deep into Tourney play. And yeah, sometime it’s about getting hot and having a crapton of luck (here’s looking at you Coastal from two years ago), but more often than not if you haven’t received and developed guys all up and down your lineup who can genuinely hit, are patient at the plate, and elite pitchers who can shutdown any lineup; leaving your bullpen always fresh and ready to go, you’re just not going to beat the ultra elite programs of the country if you find yourself still playing this late in the year.
All this to say, I do believe we are capable of having this type of elite recruiting and postseason success as a program. But if I must confess three years into Monte’s tenure, I haven’t seen evidence he has the caliber of players to pull this type of consistent philosophy off...yet.

And yet, you took time to post a useless comment about how you “didn’t read it”.
Maybe take the time to read it, douchefag instead of critiquing something you didn’t even try to read. Get lost, chitbag.

The game is not over yet, or the series... let’s let it play out before we speculate

That “small ball” 3 run bunt is what got Vandy into this game

Monte has done a great job recruiting a few highly touted guys each year he’s been here he’s just had bad breaks on them choosing to go pro such as kieboom last year... that kid is amazing

Has had extremely good starting pitching year after year. I think Jack tried too much small ball but there should be a happy balance.

I'd like to see us add at least 1 (ideally 2) top of rotation pitchers who can go 7 innings each time out.
We could use several good contact hitters...guys who can hit 2-3 or 6 who can move guys over and hit consistently with RISP.
Of course, we will lose a lot of power hitting after this year. Gotta go recruit!
