Number of Offers in the 2020 Class

Jan 27, 2020, 1:58 PM

Here are some class rankings for 2020, including the top 5 and top team from each P5 Conference:

1 - Clemson
2 - Alabama
3 - Georgia
4 - LSU
5 - an Ohio State University
9 - Texas
12 - Oregon

Number of scholarship offers sent out by those schools, according to 247:

Clemson - 105
Alabama - 252
Georgia - 266
LSU - 316
OSU - 206
Texas - 132
Oregon - 314

I'm sure every coach in the country would tell anyone that'll listen something like, "Not everyone has what it takes to be a (our school) (our mascot). We only look for certain types of individuals." We know Dabo wants a certain kind of person to be Clemson Tigers, but unlike the others, he can actually back it up. Texas is the only other school that could possibly claim having exacting standards for recruits.

LSU? Oregon? Kinda obvious pretty much anyone is good enough to play football there. I think I got an offer from one of them.

I think it points to a bigger problem in college football. Many of those offers by Bama, UGA, LSU are non-commitable to stay close with High School coaches or would be revoked if high profile kids wanted to commit. Not to mention the attrition of players who do not compete in year 1.

Dabo not only selective because he is looking for "Clemson Men" he is also making a commitment to those players for 4 years. Yes sometimes if a player waits they lose the opportunity to commit however each of those offers are "first come" until we are full at a position.

Lsu says "Sling'em all out" and then "we'll take all that stick". "Surely 25 outta 316 will want the cajun way of life".

My count for 2020 was 110 (pretty close to the semi-offivial 105 number). I have the to date offer count for the 2021 class at 62.
