That doesn't mean you're stupid, you just have bad luck thinking.

Please tell me what being a liberal or a conservative has to do with football. I get tired of the frequent spinning of some posters comments as “ must be a liberal”. A survey would probably show the same proportions of liberals or conservatives as being intelligent or stupid. All three of my brothers(all CLEMSON graduates) survived combat in WWll. One the entire war in the South Pacific and wounded three time. The other two in Europe including the battle of the bulge without a scratch. As a 1950 grad I did a year in Korea during that war. We all did this to guarantee the freedom to think what our intelligence, social conscience and religious beliefs take us. You can be a genius and have different points of view. Let’s stick to being a Tiger fan.

I was referring to the quip. It can be used for responding to folks in my family who like to interject their political nonsense (socialist, globalist wet dream stuff) into my FB stream.

I see your point. But many of the posts I am concerned about seem to be dead serious. The range of political views among the brothers was fairly broad, but we didn’t call each other stupid.

That is why this response is so good... it says...

“It doesn’t mean you are stupid, you just have bad luck thinking.“

See, not calling anyone stupid and helps explain why they are so, so wrong.

We all need to realize that we are wrong at times and need to entertain the possibility that the other person may in fact be right. The law of averages would suggest that.

Didn’t say that someone is ALWAYS wrong... just that they have bad luck thinking some times..

I have had this thought as well. I'm a conservative - certainly a fiscal conservative - who believes firmly in balanced budgets and not spending more than you make, a vigorous and bristling defense being the very best deterrent for war, the general ineptitude of big government and government-run programs, and the general futility of well-meaning but ultimately enabling and debilitating social entitlement programs that end up creating more problems than they fix. You know, traditional Republican values. I'm also a big believer in the empowerment of private business...small business, which our politicians pay empty lip service to (insert the reflex obligatory "small business is the lifeblood of America!" statement they all make here) before they then go selling their votes to the megacorps. You know: like Wal-Mart, Amazon, Alphabet, Koch Industries...the list goes on. I'd personally rather create 150,000 millionaires than allow the world's richest man, Jeff Bezos, to amass a $150 billion (and growing) empire at Amazon that pays virtually no civic taxes and pays its employees an average of $13 an hour...at that level, Bezos isn't a human being or a citizen of any country, he's a sovereign entity unto himself who is almost utterly beyond control or accountability...whatever, I digress.

Regardless, this present-day "Party of Trump" seems to have...very different values than what I usually associate with the traditional Republican Party. Argument for a different time, I won't get into it here...but one of the things that I really, really hate is the tone and tenor of our disagreements with those of opposing points of view. In particular I really cringe when people throw around words like "libtards" and "snowflakes" because it's vicious, confrontational, derisive...and worse, it means you are absolutely not listening to your opponent and in so deriding him you're ensuring that person becomes your mortal enemy.

I just do not find deliberately belittling and marginalizing the views of other Americans to be productive. In fact I find it more than a little...despicable.

I agree. However, when you are attacked by libs with personal accusations like” racist, homophobe, reptilbrain, chimp, Nazi, fascist” and a million other vile names simply because you hold a different position or viewpoint or approach to addressing a problem, you need a good retort without resorting to “snowflake, libtard, etc”. This is a decent one to use. It doesn’t call them stupid, it just points out how they seem to have bad luck thinking. ????

Yeah. That would be the SJW - social justice warrior - lexicon of descriptors, there. That kinda stuff is thoroughly tiresome to me already...and unfortunately we're likely in for a bellyful of it in the future because the present extremism of the right is producing an equally extreme response from the left...as they say, every action produces an equal and opposite reaction....

Makes me tired.

None of that kind of invective is productive. It just cheeses people off and throws still more sand into the gears of a social machine that's not exactly working overly well at the moment anyhow....

Jesus used to use parables to allow those with little-to-no understanding to actually comprehend some things. Parables are similar to analogies, so if someone posts "My thoughts", then they should probably use parables or analogies so that everyone can understand and be able to reply without sounding more stupid than if they simply replied using their own interpretation of the OP.

Or the OP could just think this - "Those who think they know everything are particularly annoying to those of us who do". That would solve some of the problems.

And if you don't want the Liberals to understand, then don't use parables or analogies. Sorry - couldn't resist.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

And if you want liberals to understand, don’t use parables ??***
