Notre Dame

Jun 11, 2012, 7:21 PM

I have zero confidence that swofford can go toe to toe with the big boys and land ND. Even if we some how get them...they will be #15 who becomes 16...Uconn? Rutgers? To me adding ND and another garbage Big east school doesnt do us any good. The only thing it would do is in 2016 when ND's tv cotract with NBC runs out we will get a little more money. It doesnt increase the football value that much. Now if it was ND and another big football school that would be a different story. But ND and a uconn or a rutgers still makes me want to go to the BIG12.

If and I mean IF

Jun 11, 2012, 7:23 PM

ND comes, it will be because the plan was put in place last year, not because of some heavy wheeling and dealing in the last few months/weeks.

But can we really wait arround til 2015 or 16 whenever their contract runs out...I just dont see this as that much of an upgrade or enough to stay just my opinion

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

we're exercising leverage right now. so is FSU. be patient.

Jun 11, 2012, 7:29 PM

i'm guessing, and this really is a guess, as i have no sources, that we will stay in the ACC and the pie will be split anew.

Re: If and I mean IF NBC doesn't have all ND games ?

Jun 11, 2012, 7:33 PM [ in reply to Re: If and I mean IF ]

Do they ? I thought I read where it was just their home games and 1 neutral site game a year. That's 8 games, leaving only 4 to be televised elsewhere. Who knows , if it did happen NBC could come in with the ACC contract much like CBS is with the SEC contract. Of course right now it's just fantasy.

Would they lose their t.v. contract if they joined a league? I guess some of you guys have access to the contract so I would appreciate knowing how it is worded.
I assume it stipulates that they cannot play Clemson or VPI or any other school in the ACC. Right?

My point was adding just nd with a uconn or a rutgers wouldnt...Yes ND would but combining it with a crappy school wouldnt add a lot

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I just don't think that Notre Dame

Jun 11, 2012, 7:41 PM

I agree with that.... BUT its also watered down with 9-10 other mediocre teams...Just not enough meat on the bone IMO...Now if we couldve added WVU instead of syracuse...Id be a lot more inclined to stay

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

i can agree with that. turning WV away was a mistake. and

Jun 11, 2012, 7:49 PM

clemson was one of the teams that wanted them on board. but at the end of the day, i still think we are going to stay in the ACC. adding ND would be a coup.

If Notre Dame can contend for a NC, then they're right back

Jun 11, 2012, 7:53 PM

on top of the college football world, immediately.

And landing Rutgers would give us the NYC market.

With Rutgers alums and the huge amount of ND fans in/around NYC, getting both of these teams would be huge and helpful.

I would want to stay in the ACC if those 2 are added.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

we have syracuse and BC. if we added NC, would we really

Jun 11, 2012, 8:01 PM

need rutgers to lock up NY? wouldn't Uconn do the same thing as rutgers? would the ACC really need either of them? i wish we were talking about WV and PSU instead of rutgers and Uconn.

adding rutgers is laughable as being huge

NY market is huge. UConn doesn't get it for us and

I understand the city of NY is huge but adding ND gets that anyway...rutgers adds nothing...do people in nt actually care about rutgers football?

Re: Notre Dame

Jun 11, 2012, 8:29 PM

TV Money goes through the roof if we add Notre Dame and (Name your School) i prefer a real football school but Rutgers will bring the tv sets. I'm telling you Notre Dame will make the the conference they land in the the wealthiest group of schools on the planet. The ACC is the best fit for Notre Dame in all areas as long as they have 4 games to schedule with other traditional rivals.

The ACC network is an immediate addition to the leagues TV package and it is National. the Northeast TV sets bring significant money if we have a product to sell.

25% of North America lives within a 200 mile radius of Syracuse,NY and Notre Dame is their college team. Why do you think NBC would invest all that money in one school? If Swoff lands ND i will gladly eat crow.

Jun 11, 2012, 8:31 PM

aslong as we get on an even footing with the big conferences regarding money and we can have a shot at the playoffs with a 1 loss team then im fine with staying put

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

makes you wonder why we would have added pitt. was it

Re: Notre Dame

Jun 12, 2012, 12:30 AM

No team in the Big East is very attractive but if the ACC could take only one I think Rutgers is hands down the team to go with. Out of the team still left in the conference they have the largest fan base at 937k with a little of 600k of those fans in the NY market. Which represents a 20% market share of the NY market. The #2 team in the NY area is ND at 9%. Also bring in Rutgers to the ACC will other benefit there team down the road and hence make the ACC better.

The coup-DA-ta would be bring in ND with its 2.26m fan base. Highly unlikely though anytime soon. ND has not rush to join any conference and I'm sure there just waiting to see how all of this re-alignment stuff plays out before they commit.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Best Case..

Jun 12, 2012, 12:36 AM

Notre Dame in, Swofford out. Sign me up. Someone should look into pressing charges against Swofford and his shady business dealings. He's gotta go for the ACC to stand a chance at success.
