Spiller get most of the credit but James Davis started this fantastic trip toward the Natty.

I'm with you on James Davis, I don't think we hear enough about him. Didn't his coming back for his senior year hurt his draft status? Or am i confusing him with some one else. Anyway, he looved playing for Clemson and gave his all.

You are correct. Davis was projected as a possible 3rd rounder after his Junior season, but ended up going in the 6th round his Senior year.

I agree completely. Davis was one of the major reasons Spiller came to Clemson. He is the pre-foundation, so to speak.

Bull crap! Past players played good and won some big games. This NC Team is due all the glory and credit.

One thing I don't like is when Dabo says all of "his" teams get a piece of the trophy. It's my firm belief that all the teams going back to the previous championship get a piece of the trophy including the 81 team. Dabo himself even said it was the 81 team that made him believe it was possible.

game winner against LSU, screaming "FINALLY, WE ARE BACK!" And, sure enough, here we are today as National Champions. There were other wins along the way, but I still feel like that was when we truly began to believe again.

I'd go back to 2004 Peach Bowl vs Tennessee as our first major win against an SEC team in the modern era.

I agree with you. And that last play win was similar to this year's Natty win in that the Tigers wore out the opposition. I think another LSU defensive guy just dropped on the field from exhaustion. :)

If all of you believe everything that you have said in this thread, then you all must agree that Tommy Bowden played a large part in us winning this National Championship. Without TB, would we ever had Dabo, without TB where would the condition of Death Valley be right now? A lot had to take place to get us to competing for titles again. But, it was TB that saw without our facilities being upgraded to compete with the Jones-es of college FB, we would still be stuck in the past where the best recruits that had many choices to where they could go, didn't and wouldn't come and play in the run down facilities that DV had become over the years since Danny Ford had won our first NC at Clemson. I'll admit that I don't care that much for TB now, but he played a big part in helping Clemson to become a part of the elite by asking for the upgrades of DV. TB was directly responsible for bringing an intelligent young Dabo Swinney back into college coaching, and TB was the one that nominated Dabo as our interim HC that gave him a chance to prove himself as an up and coming young HC!!!!

"We just beat LSU! " before the ball was snapped. My son said " Daddy! Don't jix.... The ball was up and through. Catman was clutch. I've never had that kind of faith in a kicker. What a great time to be a Tiger.
GO TIGERS!

Catman was the real deal! Was at the game and it was unbelievable! Question though... why not tap the soccer team like DANNY Ford did for years!! I know there are kicking specialist out there, but we HAVE to kick the ball through the end zone .. every time!!! Lost us the potential to have 2 Nattys in a row!!!

I don't remember...was Gardocki a soccer guy?

Jan 24, 2017, 10:10 AM

I don't think so, but I could be wrong. CG was the best Clemson kicker I've seen in person...Nelson Welch a close second. You can argue that others were better, but Treadwell and Ariri were a just a bit before my time.
