Instant Impact: Tee Higgins will battle for playing time in 2017

Clemson signed the second-smallest recruiting class of Dabo Swinney’s tenure last week, receiving a National Letter of Intent from 14 2017 prospects. The Tigers went out and signed quality over quantity and filled several needs along the way. That includes 5-star prospect Tee Higgins. Full Story »

He will significant playing time...especially in the red zone and the way he can high point a ball...probably a good # of TDs with minimal receiving yards. Dude is going to be a freakn nightmare to defend.

I live in TN and have seen Tee and Amari live....I promise you that both of these young men will set records and will get good playing time this year! Tee is not only 6' 5", he can also jump above about any secondary defender on the college level.....he's gonna be incredible!! Amari is fast, thick, very strong, excellent hands and very determined....he will NOT let down and will work his ### off and will amaze Clemson fans many, many times!! TRUST ME, these 2 young men are SHOW STOPPERS!!

Super senior highlights, but one of those would not have been a touchdown in the pros. Just ask Dez Bryant!

Needs a year in the weight room and learning the playbook. I'm sure he'll be in on a few plays just to wet his whistle, but we have a stable of really, really good WR's! Good problem to have though...

I am calling..

Year

1. Has some good moments, but has to get stronger, better at blocking, routes, playbook, etc. He works his way into more PT, but won't be the man.
2. Is pretty dominant and All ACC
3. 1st team All-American, top 4 ALL-Time WR at Clemson, top 10 NFL draft
4. NFL

I guess I'm a little more optimistic in that I expect to see him in the regular rotation by the end of the year. and possibly make a huge impact in the playoffs. Wouldn't surprise me to see him being the go to guy by years end. Depends on who the qb is.

If Edwards from USUCk can make an impact as a true freshman then Tee sure can.

With the talent already ahead of him, I hope they all take it to the next level and he redshirts.

Talent like that it would be a waste to redshirt. He won't be here but 3 years. You'd be wasting a year. Afraid if you tried to rs him he would transfer. IMO.

Be like redshirting DW4.

Edwards made an impact because the Coots have very little talent compared to us. Edwards would've redshirted as a wr if he had come here.

I understand that but my point wasn't really about edwards talent per se but rather how much more leaps and bounds that Tee is compared to someone like Edwards.

Don't worry, if this kid is as good studying as he is at being a WR, he will be a go to guy before the end of the season. A lot of guys won't give him any credit until he proves them wrong just like the Dabo doubters done. I'm saying if he retains what he studies well, and if we have a QB that can pass close to accurate passes, Tee Higgins will be a star before the end of the season. And he will be a super star at the end of his Clemson career barring any serious injury bc he has the it factor!!!

That's what I see too. There's a reason why his recruiting status is rated as "franchise " player. Rare air.

IMO the old days are over where freshman are assumed to automatically redshirt.

Do you mean like when Sammy played as a freshman? That didn't hurt the team one bit!

That Qb throwing to him didn't look half bad either. Nice touches on his pass placement.

I know that they take the plays that he has ever made to make these films up, but the way this kid goes up and takes the ball out of the air, THEY would have to go all the way back to HS to find film that wouldn't fit in one of his show what you can do film. This kid may turn out to the best receiver to ever wear the Clemson Tiger Paw. I know that the 10-a-c coaches are really sick over losing Higgins. I would be willing to bet that he was offered more that a full scholarship to sign with the Vols. In fact, I would bet that a lot of schools offered more than a scholarship to sign with them. That is kid is tall, fast, and has a great vertical to get over defenders and snatches the ball out of the air. I haven't seen none of Amari's film yet, but if he is anywhere close to being as good as Higgins, we will be looking at another NC before those kids leave Clemson. And if our D don't lose much with Brooks and Hobby gone, we will be NC again soon!!!

You know I keep seeing stories about how Tee Higgins will be an "instant impact" player for us next year. I'm sorry but I don't see it. It's not because he isn't talented enough. It's because of all the talent that's in front of him. We got Cain, Renfrow, McCloud, Powell, Overton, Thompson, and Chase. If I'm not mistaken the coaches wanted Chase to bulk. Higgins is about the same size (weight) as Chase was coming in. Higgins will have to learn the intricacies of our offense from route running, blocking, and just plain learning the plays. If he does everything right, he will be in the same position that Powell was in last year. Recall that Powell was ready to play both physically and mentally. And he still only got time sparingly. The only caveat, in my opinion, for Higgins playing early is if Overton doesn't progress, but I have no reason to believe Overton isn't better than he was last year. There's a reason why Overton wasn't redshirted last year. Higgins will get his time (and will be great) but I believe it's unfair for us to think he will be an immediate impact.

I have no doubt that Tee will get his opportunity to shrine and I also know that Dabo has no issues with putting the best player on the field, that is ready to compete in all phase of game. Without that being said as others have mention in this post, several players could've been RS but weren't by the coaching staff and Diondre Overton was one of the players . I think some forget that D. Overton first collegiate reception was a 45 yard catch over the shoulder for TD, albeit against SC State and he has full year under his belt learning the system and getting stronger in weight, all the while waiting maybe the best qb clemson has seen in a generation. Coming out of HS he was 6'5 195 and now he's weighing 205 and working on getting to 210-215 by spring . So please don't think he won't be ready and chomping at the bit for his chance to showcase why he was so heavily recruited as well also by Tennessee.

I read and somewhat understand the comments

Concerning the depth of receivers but here is my point. His skill level is so far above everyone else. I think both chase and overton were somewhere in the range of #40 best receiver in the 2016 cycle. Great talent no doubt but Tee is the #1 rated receiver in this cycle. As i said earlier, rare air.

That puts him in the same category as DW4. I remember people here saying the same thing about Watson- that maybe he should redshirt because of talent we had at the time... etc etc

I don't think he should redshirt and he won't redshirt. I just don't think he will get the playing time that some people believe he will get. When DW4 got here, there was an open competition for the starting QB role. We already have solidified starters at WR and the backups were highly recruited plus have a year in the system. Higgins has all the skill in the world, but his body frame is small especially when he will have to go up against the FSUs and other elite teams around the country. Recall that Mike Williams was around the 40th best WR when he came here and look what he became. Powell and Overton and Chase were all around that same ranking.

Again, let me be clear. I believe Higgins is special. It's just that he has going to have to wait before he gets significant playing time because the guys in front of him have earned their right to prove what they have to offer.

Have a feeling this kid is going to be really special him and Rodgers but tee is on another level. From what I've seen he high points the ball like mike also a little taller and a bball player like mike and nuk were. The biggest thing that gets me is his speed he has that speed that can turn a screen to 80 TD that's very rare. I expect to see him on the field early!!

Like I've said, he will be a star before the end of the season. He has it all but the weight, but a WR like he is, his lack of weight won't keep him off the field with everything else that he possesses!!!

Wow this kid is good. He'll be good and get reps for us next year. After he stacks on 20 lbs in the weight room he'll be almost unstoppable. You don't see guys this tall returning kicks like that. His agility for that size is very rare. Add some weight and toughness (which he might already have) and he'll need to be doubled all game. He's too big for any corner that isn't 6'1" or taller which are rare.

Very rare, reminds me a lot as far as his size, speed and hands is Bryant. I just hope he doesn't smoke weed!!!

Tall wide receiver who was one of the team's top deep threats ... one of the fastest players on the team with his 6'5" frame.

I wouldn't say start over Cain, but Cain and all others better come to work everyday with all the talents that Tee has!!!
