Down Under Tigers: Aussies make trek to see Clemson play

Jake Flannery lives a world away from his favorite team, but that didn't stop his wife from booking a trip from Australia to the United States so he could see the Tigers in person. Full Story »

What a great surprise

Oct 21, 2015, 6:13 AM

When I saw the title of this story, I thought it would be about a Clemson grad in Australia who came back to a game. But the story was so much more. That's awesome how the guy became a Tiger fan and he's a dedicated fan too. I'm glad he got to me Deshaun. That was the icing on the cake.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Great Story - send this to ESPN!

Now I think that feel good story sits right up there with some of the best I've ever heard, and I've heard a bunch of them!!! I'm glad they enjoyed every moment of their time at Clemson, and I welcome them back bc there isn't many places in the world that can match Clemson FB in the fall. I wish they could be here for the FSU game that will most likely be a night game....

Nothing in the world like The Real Death Valley. I get emotional everytime walking in. So glad to have a fan from Australia having been there and knowing what their fans are all about it means alot. Go Tigers!

Brad Brownell: Only Larry freaking Shyatt has a WORSE overall winning percentage among Clemson basketball coaches since 1975. Let that sink in. It's Larry Shyatt & then Brad Brownell.

the hair on my arms stands up. Every single time. It never gets old, unlike me. Now, these fine people have experienced it for real as well, and know how special it is. So happy for them, and like Ahnuld, sounds like, "They'll be Back!"

Only kidding. Attending Clemson and moving away doesn't hold water compared to this story. Interestingly enough, his reason for becoming a Tiger fan is the same reason I became a Wests Tigers and Richmond Tigers fan.

I'm not embarrassed to admit this brought a #### tear to my eye, but I have been drinking a bit... can't believe the 'excuse me mate' part running into Deshaun!! Yes the "it was a good night in the hotel" was pretty funny to read :)

Go Tigers!!! Beat Miami!!!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

TOO, TOO GOOD!!!!!

Oct 20, 2015, 8:50 PM

I think I love the Tigers, and indeed I do, but what dedication and sacrifice! Also, this guy's wife is in line for "Sainthood". Thanks for the story! The things we take for granted, and some of us think we make sacrifices, and we really do, to a small degree, all seem like trifles when compared to the loyalty and dedication of so many ( most we never hear about). Thanks for a great story! Also, thank God for a wife like his who really sees the way to make a dream come true and then follows it through. OUTSTANDING!!!!! Thanks for sharing!

I remember when Erin reached out to start planning this trip. Very cool to see it come the fruition! Loved to hear about how Jake wakes up super early and has his own ritual for watching games.... Jake, if you read these, don't miss that alarm clock mate- were counting on you!!

Oct 21, 2015, 10:24 AM

My wife and I met her before they started their busy day around town. It was fascinating to listen to her tell their story of how they ended up in Clemson. Erin, if you're reading this, I hope Tigertown and Death Valley were all you hoped it would be.
