Thinking about recruiting for South Florida & Clemson
Dec 11, 2019, 4:52 PM

I think there are going to be some win/win for both Clemson and South Florida.
For those players that can't get into Clemson b/c we are full at spots or they are not quite good enough to get an Offer, I think a lot of those players will be encouraged by our staff to take a look at South Florida.
Conversely, those players that have more talent and are looking for a bigger program than South Florida, won't be negatively recruited vs Clemson when they talk to coaches.
Especially, if we send a few kids Jeff's way, he's going to return the favor.
People had every right to worry about recruiting with Jeff leaving, but I think these scenarios will occur and benefit us both.

I think Jeff needs to take a quote out of Joe Biteme's book but use another name. I don't need Dabo's help i will do it on my own.

Never did I say someone else was going to do it for him.

or that Jeff wouldn't do it "own his own".
Coaches talk to each other, it's a tight community. Given the opportunities, I'm sure Dabo and Jeff will help each other out when they can. We'll both benefit more form these relationships, that we'll lose with Jeff gone.
....just like when Nick Saban called Dabo when they got full at RB, and said we should call Travis Etienne.

I never heard that about ETN. All I knew is that he was hoping to go to LSU early in the process.

Gossip was that bama didn't want Etienne to land on LSU team so someone on the bama staff suggested him to Dabo. Don't know if we'll ever get the exact story but there's something to the story.

You are half right. It was Burton Burns who called with the tip about ETN. Bama took Harris and wanted to keep ETN away from LSU. Burns called the Clemson staff and told us we need to look at ETN.

I remember this same type of thinking when Tommy Bowden came here. Everyone said that his daddy, Bobby, would send all the 5* players he couldn’t use to us. That didn’t happen and neither will Jeff sending us players or us sending some to him.

It’s pretty awesome that FSU has been doing that for us for the last several years though! Maybe Bobby started that ball rolling.

Exactly. Not getting this lovefest (USF is my new favorite team) stuff for USF because of a Clemson assistant going there. Same with Morris when he went to SMU. Same thing happened when Ford went to Arkansas from some. Wish them well and then keep Clemson first priority.

Morris and Scott are different imo. Scott is a Clemson man.

He played here, he will always have a connection to Clemson. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him keep a house on lake Hartwell

All Jeff Scott is going to be concerned with is winning one more game than he needs to keep from being ousted faster than their last coach. One 5 star player buying in to his program will lead to more players and more wins. He will name drop Dabo and Clemson more often than a poor kid who went to Harvard name drops Harvard after he graduates - 100 times per each in home visit. Recruits and their families will soon begin to associate and equate both opportunities. Scott will create his own unique version of Dabo’s successful model of a family oriented program. Scott will be in a hot bed of recruiting and he will fight to get the same players that we want.

We might recommend a kid to South Florida, but it would never happen the opposite way.

I think Scott will focus on building a program which...

puts integrity first just like Dabo did when he started. Imo, Scott will benefit by having Dabo refer players with academic and performance issue to Jeff.
In other words, Dabo will be one of Jeff's best recruiters. I think that was understood. I think it would be true if Tony took a head coaching job. It's just how brothers work. There will never be infighting among our brotherhood other than the trivial arguments we have here on Tnet.
That's just how family works. They fight but when you get involved they both turn on you.

Come on, you don't believe that. Dabo isn't going to do that. He is the Clemson coach not South Florida.
