Need suggestions on places to eat near Joel Coliseum at Wake

Nov 3, 2014, 9:05 PM

thanks in advance.
We (me and daughter age 19) want to tailgate, but just in case we can't, we need food venue suggestions.
This will be my first away game (other than bowl game). I'm leaving from Liberty so is it better to go to Charlotte then Statesville to I40?

not many good places around Joel Coliseum. Go to go to Trade Street, 4th Street or out to Hanes Mall Blvd.

I live in Winston. Go to Putters located across the parking lots on University Parkway. It's a small low key college bar/restaurant with good food. It's family friendly. That's where I'll be. The stadium and arena are not located downtown and a a mile or so from campus. There's also a bbq joint, Red/White/Blue right there too. Not much else but some bars without food. The Last Resort Bar is hosting the Tiger Tailgate. Go Tigers!

Can't comment on the restaurants around the stadium because there isn't much to choose from. If you don't get to tailgate, there is plenty to choose from on Hane's Mall Blvd.

My favorite way to travel up there is to take 85 to Gastonia then take 321 (exit 17) toward Hickory. Once in Hickory you can pick up I 40 toward Statesville and into Winston. It ensures that you miss all the Charlotte traffic.
