The 16 regional hosts have 3 other teams come to their place in the first round. 16 four team double elimination tournaments. After the first round there are only 16 teams left. Half play at home and half away. Assuming the highest seeds win all their regionals, the Top 8 seeds host the second round of Super Regionals. A 2 team best of three series. Then the final eight teams go to Omaha.

The opportunity to play at home all the way to Omaha is HUGE advantage.

Once you get there the advantage is gone. The eight teams are still advancing through their bracket just like March madness. Among the 8 teams there are 2 four team double elimination tournaments on each side of the bracket. The 2 winners play another best of 3 series to determine the National Champion.

So the format from 64 to 1 is 4 team, 2 team, 4 team, 2 team.

Another important thing about being a host is the fans having home baseball to look forward to well into the summer.

This question raises one point

No disrespect to the original poster. The fact that all Tiger fans don't just "know" the answer to this question points out that we have been irrelevant in college baseball for too long!

FYI, since the NCAA expanded the CWS to include Super Regionals, Clemson has not been to Omaha without being a Super Regional host. If we get one today (and I expect to) it is HUGE!!!
