I played against him three years and whiffed on tackling him several times, he was quick as lightning! I was there the night espn came for his coaches 300th win.(Varner)

Yep, Clemson had Rice until Holtz came to S.C. with checkbook and we lost him. I always thought he would have been a game changer had he come to Clemson.

at that time, the ACC didn't allow partial qualifiers. The rules were eased, to allow two across all sports, for FSU to join.
