NCAA rule

Dec 30, 2019, 3:28 PM

NCAA rule - really tired of reading or talking about this, but really couldn't resist.

To the average Joe and the general public watching the game, it definitely appeared to be a call that could have gone either way (slow motion appears close, real speed = incomplete). But if applying the NCAA rules: I don't think Ross was in the position to "pitch or hand the ball off" - Call be biased, but I think the refs got the call right based on the NCAA definition and example stated in the rules below.

To catch a ball means that a player:

Secures control of a live ball in flight before the ball touches the ground, and touches the ground in bounds with any part of his body, and then maintains control of the ball long enough to enable him to perform an act common to the game, i.e., long enough to pitch or hand the ball, advance it, avoid or ward off an opponent, etc.

Also says at the end of the rule--
"When in question, the catch, recovery or interception is not completed."

So, for the people who think the call should stand because it's questionable whether he caught it, that actually is confirmation that it's not a catch
