NCAA gives everyone an extra year.

https://www.espn.com/college-sports/story/_/id/29712267/ncaa-votes-give-extra-year-eligibility-division-fall-athletes

If I'm reading this right, that includes all fall athletes, regardless of whether they play this year or not.

So, how will that affect Clemson? In effect, kids now have six years to play five, as long as this is not their redshirt year.

I would guess that virtually no one will be redshirted this year. I'm just thinking out loud here, but I would really appreciate your comments.

1. True freshmen and sophomores- Why redshirt them? If they are OL or DL, why not play them - at least in mop up duty - even if they aren't ready to get significant PT? If they are a "skill position" guy why not have them at least on special teams?

I think this could really be huge for guys who aren't the guys who are top round NFL guys. I'm thinking of a senior/junior who may not be drafted high this year, but he can come back next year.

Dixon was understandably disappointed when Travis decided to come back. But, now, he can pay this year and have next year to show off for the NFL - and if he is projected to be a mid round pick, he could even stay the year after that.

Y'all know the roster far better than I. How do you think this rule will impact Clemson?

It won't affect Clemson as much as others...

We play more kids than anyone else.

Now everyone else can follow suit.

Good point. I know Dabo plays a lot of walk-ons in garbage time. I have no idea how many scholarship guys normally redshirt in any given year. But, I suspect whatever that number is, it will decrease dramatically.

So how many people can we take recruiting?

What this means is you will see more Men's non-revenue sports cut here soon. If your child participates in Men's Tennis, Golf, Swimming, etc your chances of earning a college scholarship will dwindle hugely in the future.

And you can thank the over reaction to the flu for that. So if your voting, let's just say to the left this fall, you had better hope that free college thing pans out for ya

This isn't a left problem stooge.

I think the big question is what seniors comes back who aren’t projected nfl guys. Like a Stewart maybe a turner or a Skalski (I don’t mean to insult them just not aware if projected nfl guys).

It doesn’t really impact sure fire nfl guys.

Thanks for bringing this up. I had the same questions you
