You think Lee will keep the rotation as is?

Maybe start Barnes and Clate the 2nd and 3rd game. I don't think WC will give us much problems in game 1.

Just posted this in another topic. You can't take that chance, especially considering the lack of depth and relative talent on our staff. You have to get in the winners bracket and cannot take anyone lightly. Plus you send a message to your team by throwing your #3 or #4 guy, that the game can be taken lightly. Major mistake.
If you have a deep, talented staff you can go with your #2 or very rarely your #3. But that would usually be when your just loaded with arms and have an established Sunday starter, which we don't.
ML will throw Barnes, or maybe Schmidt, on Friday. My money is on Barnes.

I think Schmidt starts game 1. I could be wrong but I don't think there's any chance he throws Barnes against western Carolina. The poster above makes good points but western is just too weak of a team to waste your #1.

you absolutely keeps things the same. Never change the rotation unless you're in a do or die situation.... All teams do the same.
Objective #1 is not worrying about games 2 or 3....It's game 1

I agree with that in most cases or it's a series vs 1 team. But WC is a weak team and I don't think we need to use our best pitchers vs them. Lee knows more about this than I do, so we shall see.

Of opposing batters and our pitchers - vs. WCU, OK State & Nebraska.
Someone is crunching the numbers.

I know you have to win to get there but I would prefer Clate pitching Sunday to wrap it up. I think we could start Eubanks or Crawford vs WC and be fine. But if that doesn't work we could be in a mess.

Your last sentence sums up why it's way too risky to pitch anyone but Barnes or Schmidt.
It's playoff baseball 101 (and really every sport)...if you worry about games 2 or 3 before you win game 1 you set yourself up for massive failure. Games 2 and 3 don't matter if you don't win game 1. You do whatever gives you the best chance at winning game 1, which is to go with the guys who got you here.

I normally agree 100% but I think Lee will change it up about for WC.

I guess it's possible, but it would be very, very surprising. I mean no disrespect to you, but that would be a very unconventional and questionable coaching move. I seriously doubt ML is willing to gamble this teams momentum on the arm of any of the inconsistent pitchers in the back side of our starting rotation. In tournament baseball you will inevitably get to the bottom of your pitching staff, but you don't do that until you have to.

it sure would be nice to have 3 reliable starting pitchers. Lee will make the right move I'm pretty sure of that.

WC may not be the best team, but they are capable of beating us. We need to do whatever it takes to win game one. I say pitch Barnes or Schmidt. If they beat us, beat our best.

Just have Krall ready...
Really like the way Coach ML chose to use him in the ACC tourney. The first game against UVA was an awesome move by Monte. Think that decision sparked our run through the tourney.

Yeah he used Krall wisely and didn't wear him out. Mr Krall will have a big say in this post season.
