Most underrated football Tiger?

Apr 22, 2015, 12:44 PM

Just because it's Wednesday and I value the great opinions of TigerNet. Looking back at it, who is one of the most underrated Clemson football players y'all can think of? Like one of those guys you think can replace but it was hard doing so, or their numbers were off the chart but didnt get much NFL attention, or those you flat out miss seeing play that nobody seemed to talk about.

First guy that came to my mind was James Davis which I think it was because CJ was a year behind him and his NFL career was short-lived. But he had 17 rushing TD's his sophomore year which is pretty crazy. Man I miss seeing him tote the rock. Another guy was Jaron Brown. He got caught up in the Nuk, Sammy crowd but he was a very solid player.

What says y'all? I cannot think back very far but I'm curious which names pop up.

Check the stats, four year starter, played everywhere on the DL, 12 year NFL starter with Seattle and anchor of the '81 DL....saved the NC season with the lateral recovery against the Holes....#99 was the absolute truth and I would put him at DT on any all time Tiger team I have seen play....dominant complete DL and more versatile than maybe any DL we have ever had.

I agree with this one too!***

Woody to JJ McKelvey late 4th vs GT

I would say Mike Eppley. Boomer was pissed when Eppley beat him out for ACC player of the year, but he was the smoothest quarterback running the option I've ever seen. Great leader. Didn't have the arm for the NFL, but for our offense perfection.

Last 15 years or so: Tyler Grisham, Michael Palmer,

Curtis Baham, and honestly, Grady Jarrett--despite his relative hype he's vastly underrated IMO.

I like the Curtis Baham reference.

He was one of my favorites when I was a kid, just old enough to start remembering everyone's names/numbers.

He never was the fastest or biggest guy on the field, but he had a nose for the football and played mean. Just ask Braxton Miller, he's still a hurtin' buckaroo

Blocking machine at that position. He made it easy for a few of our backs in the 80s.

The most under rated player to me is on the team now. ..

Apr 22, 2015, 10:20 PM

I think mac Alexander is a beast and easily one of the best corners in college football. I think some clemson fans realize this but not many other people do and you never hear anyone talking about him....mainly bc no one throws to his side of the field . I have always loved the cb position though so I watch him alot during a play and he is something special that I feel like we won't miss until after this year when we realize dang that was a great player that his career went by in the blink of an eye. He is imo one of the better shut down corners in college football the last few years and most won't realize that until he's gone starting for an NFL team
