My best friend went to the Citadel and came to visit me at Baptist College and could not believe how good our food was so it didn't just start that way. I thought our food was bad. This of course was back in the Dark Ages.

Citadel chow wasn't bad. It had its good days and its so-so days. It's industrial food so you get what you get. I agree the Mess Hall needs to be cleaned up. Rodents are a legit health concern. But we caught plenty in the barracks along with the hoards of Palmetto bugs.

A cadet ain't happy unless he's complaining about something.

I had an uncle at Clemson in the mid 1920s who participate in a boycott by marching with a groups of cadets to Pendleton and spending the day there complaining about the food. When the cadets got back to Clemson, their foot lockers were packed by the authorities and they were put on the train home.
