Memorial Stadium

I am on year 36 with football season tickets and am perfectly happy with my game day experience. I try to be open minded and do not object to changes that are positive. What improvements , if any, do you feel need to be made to Memorial Stadium? I look forward to reading your responses.

State of the Art Video Boards . . . While the system was improved not long ago, the two in the West Endzone work esthetically, but are absolutely worthless.
Individual seat-back seating will add a grand look and more comfort to those attending . . . the seating capacity will decrease, so I doubt the powers to be will make that monetary sacrifice.
Leave what's left of the hill alone!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Amen. Even louder band and cheerleader/mic man cheering so it seems like college football again. Sick of piped in music. Can get that anywhere.

A little DJ is good, but college bands and crowds are what

really make this sport the best sounding of them all by a long shot. I guess college basketball is close.
With that said, I would love to hear Queen's "We Will Rock You" with all the stomping and chanting when the team loads onto the bus to pull around to the rock. It would be like a 5 minute warning to get to your seat, it would shake the visitors locker room and tunnel, it's what's ahead, and it would put a litte extra edge to the stokage in the stadium by the time the busses pull up and we bust into the band's tunes.
If they never changed a thing I would probably be just as thrilled to be there.

Have to disagree about the DJ

I think having DJ Sha right there in the stadium has been an absolutely fantastic addition to the game day atmosphere. The students and players love the music he's playing, and he helps keep the energy level high. He's also become a celebrity in his own right. Great guy.

I am told at the IPTAY rep meetings that a new scoreboard is soon to be added to DV. A welcome addition I think.
There will be improvements in the East end zone in the near future I’m sure. My guess is that there will be some form of premium seating as we have in the WEZ but that is only my opinion. Improvements to concessions and restrooms are always being considered and that is a good thing!!!! As you perhaps know, there will be a new screening process in place this year. Sadly, security has become a top priority in every venue and DV is no exception. Fan safety and comfort receives top priority by the stadium personnel. When I think of how well game day at Clemson is handled by the stadium personnel and traffic officers it blows my mind. Cramming 90,000 fans into a town the size of Clemson seems impossible but I witness it six or seven times every year!
The IPTAY office welcomes your thoughts on the stadium and your game day experience so voice those concerns to them. It would be great if there was parking within a five minute walk to the stadium and seats on the “fifty” for all but that ain’t gonna happen! Go Tigers.

I really think we should copy what Florida State did and brick the entire exterior of the stadium if you take a look at their stadium it really looks beautiful. I also like the idea of installing the orange seat back chairs like they have in the west end zone for the entire stadium I know this will reduce the overall stadium capacity a few thousand but I don’t think that’s a bad idea. I also think and overhang over the top upper deck seats like they have at Bryant Denny Stadium in Alabama and most international soccer stadiums would really enhance the upper deck experience for those sitting up there. The last thing I think they need to do is to do something about the west end zone parking lot they really need to make that nice it is the entrance to the most noticeable and recognized building on campus.

Seat back provider will bribe the right people with kickbacks, um, I mean royalties, to keep that from happening. With IPTAY, it’s not what you know, it’s who you know. We are still little ole Clemson in some respects.

I like what the Miami Hurricanes/Dolphins did with their cover over the upper deck. Sure be nice in 95 degrees or rainy games.

stop taking football parking areas near stadium. as we continue to lose the open feel around the stadium the experience gets worse. everything and every sport cant be located by the stadium. other beautiful sites are available and convenient.few people enjoy being shuttled to the game and tailgating a mile away.we had great parking for years even when 80 k attended during the danny ford era. i think parking is the greatest issue we face and could have been avoided.

Parking is in my opinion why you see empty seats in Death Valley for even the premiere games. And I believe is a bigger issue as far as future attendance numbers going down than is folks who just cant afford to go.
If I have to take a shuttle to get to the game, I'm going to watch that game at home. If I have to park out past the golf course, I'm watching at home. Most folks over 55 just aren't going to do it on a 90 degree September day.
The softball stadium should have been built across the lake. And whomever made the decision to put it where it is and eat up so much valuable parking doesn't need to be making anymore important decisions at the university.

Two things....
Jul 10, 2019, 5:41 AM
|
|
1. Build an open air canopy shade system especially if we will continue to play so many "nooners" in September/October. Hard Rock Stadium in Miami built an open air canopy system as part of their their stadium renovation in 2016 that provides shade to 92% of their fans and yet it doesn't destroy the feel or look of an outdoor stadium.
2. Include free Tiger seatbacks to all IPTAY season ticket holders instead of making this an additional cost through a third party vendor. This is a relatively low cost, simple thing that IPTAY could do to show appreciation and an added tangible benefit to all IPTAY members (all donor levels). Unfortunately, however, adding value to the broader IPTAY membership does not seem to be a priority among the athletic department or IPTAY leadership.
Seems to me from the recent IPTAY survey of stadium renovations that everything they are discussing is targeting a select number of more affluent fans (donors) than the Clemson family at large. I can't recall a single stadium renovation on the survey that would have been a benefit to all fans. Every offered renovation on the survey was followed by a question of how much more you would be willing to donate for such "improvements".
Maybe we will get a new video board/scoreboard which would be nice for all fans but don't kid yourself - the majority of renovations that are being discussed are a means to raise funds and are targeting the more affluent among us and not the majority of fans. I really don't have a problem with this but do wish IPTAY would also throw a bone to us regular folks as well...

I love the shade idea...have never thought about it before. That would be awesome, especially as my seats are in direct sun for the noon games and it's blistering hot.

Reduce width of orange seats to exact size of seating area

They are too wide and steal precious seating area from other ticket holders.

years ago I got to go to some Penn St games when they were a power team. You could see remnants of where they had narrowed seats several times. There was no room so you sat as soon as you could to make sure there was room for you.t

I believe each range seat in DV is an inch or more too wide for the space. Several of them in a row really begins to impact the other seats.

State of the art video screens should be #1 priority

For the state of our program and the money we're raking in, we should have one of the best scoreboard systems in the country, but it's not even in the top half of our own conference much less the country. We're 12th out of 15 in the ACC; only Louisville, BC, and Cuse's are smaller (see for an infographic as of last year).
Continue to improve the mobile connectivity within the stadium. It's so much better than even a few years ago, but I still have problems getting text messages through during popular games. It would also be nice if they installed a high speed wi-fi network.
I like the shaded canopy idea someone mentioned above. That would be great for early season noon games.
I'm torn on individual seats. I don't like the aluminum bleachers, especially when it's blazing hot outside, but they do have some advantages. Installing individual seats would also reduce the number of available seats by 1 to 3 seats per half-row (even side/odd side) per section. That would push a lot of season ticket holders into the upper decks or out of the stadium altogether.
Closing in the Hill side by installing seats above the Hill might be cool. Not sure how practical that is, although if they put in individual seats in the lower decks they might have to close it in just to have a net zero loss in capacity.
IPTAY sent out a very detailed survey last year showing some proposed upgrades to the stadium. I can't say I'm in favor of any of them, because they were all catered to the top few levels of donors. Changes like that will price a ton of long-time season ticket holders right out of the market.

Clemson is already in the planning stages to implement a new video scoreboard and to add premium seating in the East Endzone.
If the rumor is true that the West Zone can't be built on top of then I wouldn't be surprised to see them tear it down and start over when they decide they want to increase seating capacity (they'll do it too). West Endzone seats are great...they just didn't make enough of them. The East Endzone gets my vote for eventual additional seating as well.
Anybody who thinks Clemson's looking to decrease seating capacity with seat-backs is insane. That's not in the plans. That's what premium seating in the east-endzone is for (increased revenue). They're NOT going to decrease seating capacity (ever).
Last but not least, air-conditioned concourses would be nice.

One thing that makes it difficult for Clemson to sell out every game is the fact that the 5,000 tickets distributed for the hill are actually standing room tickets and not numbered seats. I do not know of any other stadium that includes standing room tickets in its seating capacity. There are @76,000+ actual seats in Death Valley, not 81,500 as listed as stadium capacity.

For one, almost all of the Hill tickets--if not all of them--are student tickets. And as we've heard for a while now, student tickets are at a premium. Students aren't even guaranteed tickets to every game, which I still find to be a near-outrageous situation.
Back when they'd pack 10,000-12,000 people on the Hill, sellouts were not a problem.

The hill will never be the same again. It already has changed too much with it not packed to the gill with students like it was until about 4 years ago...And no balloon launch anymore. If they add seating, we won’t see the buses turn the corner which pumps up the fans for the entrance. Money drives everything now in this society which has affected too many things negatively.
