Proof the earth was once covered with water

Jun 5, 2018, 4:37 PM

Went and got a yard of dirt and look what was in it. I live at least 10 miles inland.

Maybe it was dropped by a migrating swallow.

Fossilized coral can be found in Iowa- the town of Coralville is named for it.

But if you're just 10 miles inland and we don't get our heads right about climate change, the good news is that in just a few decades, you'll be able to significantly add to your shell collection.

Jun 5, 2018, 7:57 PM [ in reply to Re: Proof the earth was once covered with water ]

No one I'm aware of said that and I follow climate change pretty closely. But it will happen. Some places already feel it like Miami.

The Pentagon gets it Even Exxon admits it on their corporate page.

The science is not even new. In 1827, Joseph Fourier came up with the Laws of Heat Conductance and Knew certain gases were prone to warming more than others.

In 1860, John Tyndall identified water vapor and CO2 as the main atmospheric drivers of heat, Without which the Earth would be a cold icy ball.

In 1889, Arvid Hogbom calculated the amount of CO2 given off when burning coal.

In 1896, Svante Arrhenius estimated that doubling CO2 in the atmosphere would increase temperatures by about 5 degrees. He overshot a bit but he knew what was going on. You should too.

Indeed. Much of Iowa was covered by tropical seas roughly 400 million years ago.

2024 purple level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

May we consider this from a true scientific point of view?

Jun 5, 2018, 7:22 PM [ in reply to Re: Proof the earth was once covered with water ]

I accept that global warming is real and unless we change the earth may someday be covered with water. From a pure scientific point of view that's a good thing because we'll all grow gills and swim away.

If we have to swim upstream to spawn I'm building a boat.

Jun 5, 2018, 4:59 PM

These cliffs are in the back bay area/ Dover Shores. Anyway, when we were kids we used to try to climb to the top of these cliffs. There are shells all the way to the top of these cliffs. Those homes on the top of that hillside are very big to give you some scale. The water level was way different.

No chit, proving the earth was covered with water isn't necessary. If they don't believe, nothing you can do will change their minds. You're dallying in the Holy Spirit's business trying to change hearts with anything other than love, Jhop. Beware, my friend, beware.

It was a cheap shot at Hop.

Jun 5, 2018, 7:17 PM

I ought to be ashamed but I'm not. The Bible calls the Word of God the Sword of the Spirit. It's not given for us to condemn but to defend ourselves from spiritual attacks. When we parse out the Word it should be done with love not to prove to others we are right and never to prove them wrong. The Bible says water covered the face of the earth. I need no science to prove that to me, I live with the evidence which I can not ignore all day, everyday.

It's not about me being right. it's all about Him being right and me accepting Him as truth. I remember the days of spiritual adolescence. While they were fun sometimes the growth pains were not. I'm still enduring growth but it doesn't seem to hurt so much now.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpgringofhonor-clemsontiger1988-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I didn't recognize the cheapened value

Jun 6, 2018, 12:12 AM

of the shot, I thought it was innocently snarky but not cheap... And there I go thinking the best of every man.
By the way, which event are you referring to when water covered the face of the Earth? Which translation of the Bible do you prefer? Do you prefer "Holy Spirit" or "Holy Ghost"?

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think Holy is the most important word in there.

Jun 6, 2018, 12:19 AM

I asked for the gift of tongues and God told me it wasn't for me. My gift is teaching. I'm supposing this cuts to the heart of your question. Whether one prefers ghost or spirit makes me no never mind for the scripture says both. Neither is inaccurate.

In the beginning which doesn't come with a date water covered the earth. We know Noah floated for a long time. Either I don't remember or it's not known just how long his voyage lasted. I'm not sure the entire earth was covered with water at that point but the remembers of the story say it was. That may be a perspective and not a global report. I don't know and I don't care because it isn't critical to me other than knowing that civilization was decimated by drowning. I'm always open to scripture and I have plenty of huge gaps in understandings.

Re: I think Holy is the most important word in there.

Jun 6, 2018, 12:35 AM

Actually, ghost by definition is inaccurate and just because it's in the book, the inclusion doesn't necessarily validate it's accuracy. We are prone to error but still must strive to reach the mark of the high calling. It's not our responsibility that those before us layed fodder in our path, for me, it confirms my dependency on the unction of the Holy Spirit to lead and guide me into all Truth. The books are fallible, but His Spirit is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path that illuminates the stumbling blocks and pits to avoid on our journey.

But climate change will cause the sea level to rise to unnatural levels. Except that is hasn't always been at this level, but apparently that is where it's supposed to be and any change to that is bad.
