First they reinstate the coach on Tuesday, only to fire him today. Should have been fired long ago.

The Board of Regents pressed the school president, Loh, to bring Durkin back...or be fired. Loh announced his intention to retire the end of the academic year in response, as he was opposed to retention.

I think the Maryland players forced the issue. Some of them were nearly in revolt over it, and felt nobody had accepted any responsibility for the abuses that led to their teammates death. Should not have required that much commitment on the part of the players, to force the University to do the right thing. Further more, the NCAA should allow any player on the Maryland team to transfer without having to sit out a year.

Merryland already faces legal challenges from the death involved and the Regents did not want fire Durkin “without cause” because of money in his contract the school would owe him. Obviously sound judgement and management are both lacking here. If the Big 10 were smart the conference would oust the school and force them to look elsewhere. The ACC was wise to let them leave.

I don’t really think the ACC “let them go”. The B1G offered Maryland because if their size and recruiting area. They haven’t added anything to the conference other than helping the top teams recruit.
