MLB, NFL coaches are canned to change culture

Mar 14, 2017, 11:54 PM

Shake things up. Whatever. Often decent coaches and unquestionably good men are removed when things aren't working or a good fit isn't present. Why not now? Brad Brownell is a great guy. He's given his all. He's had a clean program. He's never been an embarrassing representative of the University that I can recall. But it's not working. Why not negotiate a resignation/termination package and start again elsewhere rather than struggling so hard here?

The termination package was negiotated when the extension was signed. It's just a matter of DRAD pulling the trigger.

Brad Brownell: more losses than any other coach in school history.

True, that's available for Clemson. Sometimes the sides split the baby regardless of the contract depending on circumstances. If not, then yeah, terminate.

We just spent what, 60 million, on basketball facilities upgrades. Someone cares. They buyout is a rounding error on top of that.

Just shut up

We spent $60M renovating facilities and gave a coach who had accomplish NOTHING a generous contract and extension. So just spare that idiotic "we don't care" nonsense.

The question is - does the AD and the other powers that be comprehend the current state of affairs clearly enough to understand that they need to act now? If they're so clueless that they can't see the obvious, Brownell will be back next year.

We're going to have to start over with basketball. At least we now have the facilities to attract a real coach and some better players. But shut your stupid pie-hole about we don't care.

The facilities upgrade was just another pretty shiny thing DRad wanted to pad his resume. As to the actual results of our basketball team, if anybody who matters did care, CBB would've been fired years ago.

Wrong!

The salary increase and ridiculous extension dollars given to Brownell were not a sign of admin not caring - they were a sign of bad judgment. Renovating LJ was something that was going to have to be done if we were ever to be competitive. A great coach could have perhaps pushed that necessity off a few years. With the consistently mediocre, less-than-middle-of-the-pack results we've had in recent years, we had to do it as soon now.

You are right about one thing, though; it was clear two years ago that Brownell was going to have to go. Here we are dealing with the results of denying that reality; the farce that occurred last night. Anyone still denying it now is just being unreasonable... sitting in the pumpkin patch with Linus, waiting for the Great Pumpkin to show up and grant Clemson a basketball program.

For those of you, I will ask the same question I've been asking for two years - how much more do you need to see? When is it enough?
