With all of UGA's db issues
Aug 20, 2013, 11:46 PM

Is there any chance at all they get blown out? I kniw its doubtful but is there an outside shot that they just get hammered and everyone is shocked by a major beat down ? Or no?
Cause for some reason, and I'm not sure why to be honest, something tells me that one of us gets blown out. Just a gut feeling I've had lately.

Blow out?

No, not a chance. I think this is going to be a shoot-out. Our defense, especially the secondary, is young. Their defense had a lot of turnover, and it sounds like injuries have been plaguing an already-young unit.
Combine those factors with the fact that Clemson's offense is stout, and Georgia's offense features an experienced QB and an impressive run game, and I think we're going to be looking at 50-60 pts scored this game.

well - especially Alexander and Kearse both starting so well - hope they recover and get back to accolades. Only then will I trust in defensive backs, as the experienced cornerbacks have shown flashes, but are inconsistent and injury prone. I hope they prove me wrong. As of now, I hope we win a shootout, however I would prefer our defense surprise me and we win a blowout obviously biased. Go Tigers!

It will come down to which qb has the most time to throw. Ga. will be after Boyd on EVERY snap. OL better be ready for a tough night.

The key to the DB's is the DL! Simply put. if we get a rush on any QB, the DB's are at an advantage to cover properly and pull the INT! Our DL must get in any QB's face to cause disruption to him especially when the QB is not a strong runner.

as did UF. That was one of the ugliest games I'd ever seen and we know neither teams' D was elite last year. UF got embarrassed by Louisville and UGA's D was just not that great even with all the NFl talent on it.

IMO, UGA (or A&M) had the best O in the SEC last year. The difference in the UGA, UF, and USC games was a ridiculous amount of turnovers. I think you'll agree with me on those points?

close going into the 4th quarter. The difference will be which defense gets the critical stop(s) late in the game. I like our chances on that account. I think we win by 10, but it won't be decided until very late.

Here's how a blowout is very possible. UGa's inexperienced
Aug 21, 2013, 10:10 AM
|

secondary gives up some easy long td's early, and we get up 20+ pts in the first half. Uga will have to abandon their run first, milk the clock gameplan and start throwing it around. A turnover or two going our way and they get flustered and our improved pass rush gets to Murray.
We start running on them late, then they bring safeties up, and we hit them deep again.
It's not pie-in-the-sky at all, but takes a few things going our way.

I will be very surprised if Boyd isn't running for his life on every play. The long ball may not work in this game unless Clemson gets a big lead and is able to run the ball. Screens and throws to the backs may be more successful. Hope that the downfield blocking is good. It has improved a lot recently. As always, field position will be key. That is one edge I feel that the Tigers have. Pinion is super.

Why do you think he'll be running for his life?
Aug 21, 2013, 11:28 AM

UGA's DL is no where near as good as LSU, SC, UF, etc. They run a 3-4 and rely on LBs to bring the pressure. These LBs are young and inexperienced and if they don't rush under control Tajh will run right by them and get chunk yards on the ground. Is Morris is happy with out OL then I'm very confident in them. Also we'll keep a RB in for passing downs and the word is that McDowell, Brooks and Davidson are really good at blitz pick ups.

We don't go up against many 3-4 teams with elaborate blitz packages. If UGA is going with a 4-2-5 then we're comfortable because that's the base we normally see from teams that play us

You may think so, but I would rather match up a db against your receivers instead of a linebacker trying to cover one of the big three. Schematically it makes perfect sense. The pass rush will still be on and the linebackers are still capable of setting the edge in the 4-2-5.

With the state of your secondary I don't think it really matter if a LB or a DB is on our WRs. Their at a disadvantage and will heavily be leaning on your DL to get pressure. if they don't Tajh will torch your secondary, much like I fear Murray will do to ours if we can't get pressure on him.
Even still they have to be careful how they rush Tajh because he's just as likely to run past them and avoid the pressure. You're counting on a young and inexperienced D to play sound defense not only against our scheme but against a dangerous dual threat QB.

That is true. I am counting on an inexperienced d to be ready to play you guys. The same way many of you are counting on the questionmarks on your team to prove themselves.

While we too have a string of injuries in the secondary that's to the freshmen that we hoped would help us out. The 3 starters that were out for most of last year are fine and will start, as they would have regardless. We return all of our LBs and DL except for one player on each and they are replaced by guys with plenty of experience.
You're counting on a young inexperienced defense to help you. We're counting on a defense that is a year older and full of experience to take the next step.
That's the difference.

How do you figure that? Your offensive line had problems all year last year blocking, just because it's a new year doesn't mean that they will be any better and your running game hasn't proved anything yet outside of Boyd. And your secondary wasn't good also when they had to face a good passing team, and just like your offensive line, just because it's a new year doesn't mean that they will be any better and also want you have 2 or 3 freshman playing in the secondary also just like ours? Now the defensive front I will give you that.Yours is more experienced than ours, but the defensive line is easier to learn than the offensive line.

Don't forget you're not the only team with a veteran OL and coaching staff looking for blitzes and ready to pick them up. Also if you're going to be in a 4-2-5 then that works to our advantage.

Im not sure why anyone would think our LBs are inexperienced. Boyd will be running for his life all night long. Jenkins and now Floyd will be Boyds face from the get go. If he avoids them then he should have open receivers to pick from.
I dont see any way he consistently avoids both of them.

You're discrediting our OL, the FB, TE, and RB that will be kept in on passing downs to keep that from happening. Also we have hot routes we run when a blitz is coming.

Toby Johnson was one of the top JUCO players in the country. He's gonna be a big addition to our D line rotation. I think I know our weaknesses pretty well. We dont know what we have at Nose. Thornton is supposed to be more athletic but I read that as a guy who will wilt under pressure. Floyd is raw and has the potential to over run and get to far upfield. Even if Swann, Matthews, Fluker, Dawson and Wiggins all start in the secondary and are healthy, that still means we start 2 true freshman and a JUCO guy with not a lot of practice in the secondary.
Our best case scenario in the secondary is still scary. I'd prefer that JHC had not been suspended. I'd prefer that Moore didn't have a severely banged up knee. But we'll play with what we got. What we've got in the front 7 is pretty dang good.

Actually I look at games in a weird sort of way. I think how badly can CLEMSON beat UGA, and how badly can UGA beat CLEMSON.
I think CLEMSON or UGA can blow out the other team, but I give the edge to CLEMSON.
CLEMSON can win 63-17 (Hmmm? Sounds familiar somehow) UGA can win 43-27
So overall - I give the advantage to CLEMSON. And yes - they can blowout UGA. I'm predicting 51-24 CLEMSON winning.
