Looking at ND's schedule, their best win was

A slightly above average Stanford. Michigan and Michigan St looked like good wins earlier on, but both ended up being frauds. Oklahoma was exposed, as well.

Above average Stanford? Stanford would give Bama a ballgame. They are good, no doubt about it.

Losses to unranked Washington and this terrible ND team

Have to disagree there...

Ummmm...Stanford is going to finish in the top-5.

When someone says "above-average" I think of a 7-5 team, not the Pac-12 champion that beat Oregon and was one play away from a national title appearance.

Stanford is pretty good.***

We are "pretty good"

That doesn't get it done in the title game, as ND is illustrating.

Yea a slightly above average team ranked #6 in the nation, who beat Oregon in Autzen.

Played above their heads for a game

Does not a championship team make.

The also beat a very good UCLA team twice, a very good Oregon State team, and a quality Arizona team. Stanford was a #### good team.

Except for that time they lost to Washington

That seems like a dealbreaker to me.

Not really. Losing @ Washington the week after beating Southern Cal (who was #2 in the nation at the time) makes perfect sense. It's the ultimate let-down situation. Washington isn't a great team, but they're a pretty high quality program who plays well at home (only home loss was to Southern Cal and they also beat Oregon State at home). Washington's losses came @Oregon, @LSU, vs Southern Cal, @Arizona...and then later @Washington State & Boise State in the bowl game.

You're just trying to make excuses, but your argument has far too many holes.

Holes? They lost to Washington

After beating a ##### USC team.

After a very emotional win against Southern Cal, who was ranked #2 at the time. Southern Cal was also a very good team at the beginning of the season. The wheels definitely fell off at the end, but it was a big deal for them to go down against Stanford.

Having a let down after an emoitional win isn't good, but it's somewhat understandable.

Either way, you're trying to prove Stanford is just a "slightly above average team" when it's obvious they're not.

We beat Auburn, who was expected to be better

But you saw how that turned out. Ditto for USC.

There's no point in continuing this argument because you're not going to budge on this apparently. If you saw Stanford play, you'd see they're a very, very good team.

ND schedule was strong. They had some nice wins...Alabama has great players but at the center is Nick Saban. Like him or not, just a great coach. Give him a month to prepare in a game of this magnitude and this is what he does.

"Slightly above average Stanford"?
