Some outrageous tidbits in the bill

Mar 25, 2020, 7:26 PM

-$25 Million for House of Representatives raises.
-A body called the Pandemic Response Accountability Committee. No doubt this will be responsible for drawing up the next set of impeachment articles.

Still digging. More to come.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

-$25 million for the Kennedy Center. Thank god for THAT.

-$75 million for The National Endowment for the Humanities (whatever the hell that is).

-$350 million for migration and refugee assistance. Illegal aliens.

-$1.0 billion for sanctuary cities.

It wasn't in the version posted on the Senate site yesterday

Mar 26, 2020, 7:54 AM [ in reply to bu, bu, bu, but Prod said that wasnt true*** ]

Some of these items are in there now. But, in every case, they specifically say that the funds are to be used for coronavirus preparation and response.

There's nothing in there about sanctuary cities. At least the word "sanctuary" is not in the document...not sure how to look for it otherwise.

The sanctuary city part is nonsense.

Re: Trump has defended the $25 million for Kennedy Center

Mar 26, 2020, 8:20 AM

Although Republicans have been attacking the inclusion of funding for the Kennedy Center, Trump said he personally approved it and that “the Kennedy Center has suffered greatly.” Trump noted that it started out as a Democratic request, adding, “You know, it works that way. The Democrats have treated us fairly. I really believe that we’ve had a very good back-and-forth. And I say that with respect to Chuck Schumer.”

Trump acknowledged, though, that assisting an institution like the Kennedy Center might come across like “not a good sound bite, but that’s the way life works.”

Falsehood flies, and truth comes limping after it, so that when men come to be undeceived, it is too late; the jest is over, and the tale hath had its effect: like a man, who hath thought of a good repartee when the discourse is changed, or the company parted; or like a physician, who hath found out an infallible medicine, after the patient is dead.

Let us know when you uncover benefits hotels and casinos get...there’s pork and windfalls aplenty benefiting interests on both sides of the aisle...we should be upset at both parties here.

Re: Let me help you out

Mar 26, 2020, 9:46 AM

Thanks for the condescension...can’t get enough of that...and I don’t have a side of the aisle...I am the aisle.

What I am referring to relates to the monies/loans available to small businesses and affiliation rules regarding common ownership of multiple properties and number of employees. Hotels and casinos are exempt from those rules such that each location can basically qualify as a small business.

The bill does call for $25M to the HOR

Mar 26, 2020, 8:08 AM

But I'd say it's highly unlikely that that money is for raises for members of Congress. The bill certainly doesn't say that. It does say that the money is specifically for coronavirus response.
It seems much more likely to me that it'd be for continuance of pay for the some 10,000 employees of the House and other expenses to keep the House operational during the coronavirus crisis.

$25M for 10,000 employees, for example, would only be $2500 per employee. So it's not a big amount when you think about it that way.
