Both are correct. Had TL connected on some throws or ETN got the ball more, the game could have gone better. LSU gets some credit for pressuring TL

LSU adjusted their defense to our offense.

Ne NEVER adjusted our offense to their defense. That's on the coaches, specifically the OC and Dabo. ETN should have carried the ball more. We didn't have the open receivers. If they're covered like glue, there HAS to be some room to run the ball. The one thing opponents can count on is our offense will never change and commit to the running game. BV over on defense can change the defense every play, however he wants to change it. And if needed, he changes it a little, none, or totally.

For all the looking ahead that Dabo is known for doing, "developing" a program, one thing he should also do is get with D-rad, long ago, and scheduled some meat on our schedule. He's doing it NOW. D-rad should have been scheduling some tough programs 5, 6, 8 years ago. Trade in a furman/charlotte for an SEC school. Coots won't count. We do get ND next year, thankfully. But FSU doesn't count anymore. We don't get to play UVA, the only other halfway decent ACC school at the moment. I think we have UGA coming up soon. But they are correct the ACC does hamper us some, not with the rankings as much as not having a real test.

Some things are don e best with meticulous planning. But sometimes flying by the seat of your pants is better than all the planning and film study available. BV flies by the seat of his pants. And it works for him. But on offense, we come out with a game plan and stick to it. Any changes are minor.

Actually, isn't UVA our crossover opponent in 2020?

2020 purple level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpg

Yeah, forgot they were next year.

Thank goodness. Still, we need to find tougher teams to play wherever we can. We have two cupcakes each year, because we have the coots every year as out-of-conference "SEC" team. We then schedule ONE OOC good school. That's been our scheduling forever. We have to play USC, and the ACC is lower than ever before last year, I say we trade in one of the two cupcakes for two GOOD OOC teams. aTm was supposed to be out tough out last year. ND is all we got next year. Maybe UVA, but the ACC crossover doesn't count. Glad it's UVA though.

Schedule a Florida, Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan, Oklahoma even.

Clemson has won 2 of the last four championships. Scheduling better teams is not the issue. LSU was the better team.

Re: Yeah, forgot they were next year.

Our schedule is only weak when the ACC is weak. We have Oklahoma, Notre Dame, LSU, Georgia, and other solid games on the schedule, then UConn, LA Tech, App State and other smaller schools. We have to play our ACC Games, then by SC Law we play USC and one more in state school. We should drop SC State and play Costal, Furman or The Citadel more often (same as Alabama and FSU...). Most D1 schools will not schedule Clemson Home and Home. Who cares if we play Ohio State or Michigan during the season, we can always get them in a Bowl, or they show some respect and schedule us Home and Home. At least Texas A&M and Auburn schedule Clemson (class). Most big schools don't want Clemson on their schedule, just ask Georgia!!!!

You get LSU @ Clemson in five years***

Uhhh...Clemson does play UVa next season.

Posted: Jan 15, 2020 10:10 AM

Maybe it was a typo, but Virginia is clemson's cross-over opponent from the Coastal next year.

2020 - Virginia

2021 - @ Pitt

2022 - Miami

2023 - at Duke

2024 - Virginia Tech

Clemson is currently working to at least try to schedule a home and away with Florida but Florida rarely leaves the state for OOC games. Florida doesn't really want to come to Death Valley. They prefer a neutral site in Orlando or Tampa. As I understand it, the two sides are still talking.

Clemson has tried for decades to schedule a home and away with Penn State and Michigan but both schools have insisted on a two-for-one type arrangement which is something Clemson absolutely will not do.

Ugh do those programs realize we are the bigger fish? They have to bend the knee to us. Just like UCF needed to do with UF.

Do you have caching experience at the d1 level? Have you ever been a part of a d1 football program? You talk a lot and have all these ideas, but is anything you say backed with years of experience? Dabo doesn’t need to do anything you say. You know why? He’s smarter than you. He’s a head football coach of a d1 program that’s won 2 of the last 4 natty’s. I don’t think he needs to do anything you suggest. LSU was just better dude

So in 2012-2014 era, DRad was supposed to know FSU would tank in 2018 after beating us 51-14?

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see us go against some better opponents in the season, but the way scheduling works, you're asking somebody to know who will be up and who will be down in 2026-2028 time frame.
That's pretty hard to do. Case in point: The first ever CFP rankings top four to come out were:
1 Miss State
2 FSU
3 Auburn
4 Ole Miss

Things change in college football, a lot.

in the country! Six years ago, FSU won a national championship! Six years ago, Usuc had beaten us 5 straight! We play 10 power five teams every year, more than 90% of the country! No sense in complaining that our schedule isn't tough enough! You can't predict it two years ahead, much less 8 or 10, when power 5 teams have to scheduled!

perhaps we didn't "adjust" well on Monday, but the offensive

staff has consistently outsmarted defenses, for years.

I agree with Max and Stephen. Trevor was high and wide all night. Had he been a pitcher, he would have walked 10 guys. And Travis? He performed a magic disappearing act in the second half. His fault? Of course not. TE AND JS are to blame, with Dabo also taking some of the heat. Why not feed the ball to the most explosive running back in college football over the last two years? You are just making it easier for the opposition. Can you imagine a coach not feeding Jim Brown, or Walter Payton, or O.J. Simpson???? What the ####????? All they did in the second half was throw incomplete passes. I'm sure LSU is very grateful. Clemson needs to return to the spread offense, which I think means you get everyone involved, thus making it difficult for any team to keep up. Also, what happened to Amari Rogers and Braden Galloway. They hit Braden for a huge gain early on and then say bye bye to him. Amari??? Never really in the game. Clemson probably had more offensive weapons than any team in the country and underutilized so many.

Re: TNET: WATCH: ESPN's 'First Take' talk blame for Clemson's loss to LSU

Completely agree. Coaching staff was the most effective defense against ETN. In both AZ and New Orleans, Travis had a great drive to start the second half, leading to a TD. In AZ, Clemson scored early in the second half, then ETN didn’t touch the ball until the TD pass on the final drive. In New Orleans, Travis hammered the ball into the end zone with several runs to start the 3rd quarter. At that point, he had maybe 15 carries and 80+ yards. There were 11 minutes left in the 3rd. Clemson let him carry it one more time the rest of the game. After the defensive stop, Clemson got the ball back and the score was 28-25. Why not give your most dynamic player one carry with Clemson having the momentum?

Re: TNET: WATCH: ESPN's 'First Take' talk blame for Clemson's loss to LSU

It’s almost as if the staff depends too much on the play chart. Meaning they are going to call the play based on the specific defense. But think of how many times ETN makes something out of nothing when you give him a little space. He can be defended perfectly and still make yards. Think of the TD run inside the 10 vs OSU when he made 5-6 guys miss to score. Sometimes, with a special player, you have to take the Danny Ford philosophy. If it’s working, Keep running a similar play until they prove they can stop you. Forget the “Metrics”

I'm sorry Lester, but I'm okay with winning 2 of 4

national championships. If you want to criticize Monday's offensive playcalling then fine, but its ridiculous to criticize one of the best offenses over the last 4 or 5 years.

You don't win them all, and hindsight coaching is easy.

Not using TravisE and Galloway for approx 1/2 of the game is on the OC's and there is no excuse for that, except incompetence. Understanding previous success, but it's about adjusting to the current situation. Didn't happen. If all of the inexperienced fans on here can see this, why not the OC's.

"incompetence"??? it was one freakin game!

Posted: Jan 16, 2020 3:08 AM

What the helll is wrong with you?

Yes... Trevor's inconsistency was the Biggest Factor.

Posted: Jan 15, 2020 9:05 PM

I agree that Trevor's inability to hit the receivers that were open WAS the biggest reason for the team's lost... and the receivers were in an open window on most of those throws. His inconsistency caused the defense to have to play too much of the last half for sure.
Had Trevor been in his usual form I really don't think LSU would have beaten us. Several of their touchdowns came on the long ball... the defense was slowing their offense down until the missed throws began.
After thinking about it... what I regret most is that Trevor will not get another chance to prove himself compared to Burrow. the two in normal form would have been a great competition!

I completely agree....

that ETN should have gotten more opportunities in the second half.

The bigger, more glaring issue IMO, was the performance of the Clemson secondary.

true but some of the secondary could have been offset with better pass rush. He had very little pressure in the pocket

badge-donor-05yr.jpg

I wouldn't argue with that...

If you are going to leave your DB's on an island (and not give them help over the top), you have to get pressure on the QB, especially a QB as good as Burrow.

Several times the DB's or LB's seemed to be standing 7-10 yards behind scrimmage like scarecrows serving no function far away from any receiver

Agree - the DL was a concern all year - which BV minimized with superb coaching.. Think this was to be expected with all of the Power Rangers coming back last year - which meant of course that they all left at the same time - including the top reserve... HOWEVER - they gave us the 2018 NC - with the superb win over Bama - which I personally would not trade for anything football related !! -<img border=">

It was a TEAM loss period. Players and coaches.

Not one person on the field or sidelines who couldn’t have played a better game.

Except (as someone else said) David Potter, who,was absolutely perfect.

Agree the reason is shared. Amarie took a big hit. Higgins took a big hit and Trevorcwas throwing high balls. Maybe no show Ross and others were not going to extend and absorb those hits 12 or 14 times. Then 2 great receptions by tight end and stopped calling the play. Play callng stopped feeding the ball to ET first part of the third. If he was banged up where w as Dixon. Losing the leading tackler on a questionable play after he had shaken up Burrow was a turning point on D. Not enough physicality by receivers or defenders. Think Clemson had a bad OSU hangover. Yep if we're going to play the blame game it should be spread around. LSU brought its A game and adjusted. Difference is Cle.son will be back next year bug LSU will not. Bama will seriously tame the LSU tigers next year. 1 and done unless the portal bails them out again.
