Just watched Tboonpicken’s post on the ‘89 Clemson/coot game and which is...

Jun 26, 2020, 7:41 PM

Most impressive?

45-0, 63-17, or 56-7? (Let’s leave 1900 out of this argument and keep it to modern day.)

Even though I can vividly remember the last two (I was 5 when 45-0 occurred and don’t even know if I watched the game live), I want to say 45-0 is most impressive.

When you shut someone out at THEIR HOME, I think that carries more weight. Also, scoring 45 points back then when you’re running the option and chewing up clock should factor into the equation.

What say ye?

Thanks! I guess cuz they were fighting for a bowl birth and playing at home?

Jun 26, 2020, 8:24 PM

They are a tuff out at home.

Really? They were 5-6 and we were 7-4 coming into the game.***

2016 pitted 10-1 v. 6-5. 2003 pitted 7-4 v. 5-6.

Jun 26, 2020, 8:14 PM

So 2016 tells me we shoulda slaughtered them.

The other two years tell me it shoulda been closer if ya basing it solely on records.

And, it wasn't even that close. I was there and it was glorious. Seemed like we could have scored on every play. The coots were unusually quiet.

It was! I was a sophomore then. Watched the game at my parent’s house with a coot friend...

She left at halftime cuz she assumed the game was over.

True blue coot fan.

45-0 was the biggest beatdown. Had Danny wanted they could

pushed 80-0. It was total domination.

I saw each of them. I’ll go with 63-17 over 56-7, because it was so unexpected and on the road.

Saw them all and 45-0 gets my vote. Once the ball was kicked off there was pretty much no hope for them. The defense was rabid and flying around like lunatics on every play. Like Kevin Kiley said normally you just hand it off up the middle to keep the score from getting out of hand but that was the best play we ran, along with pretty much every other play. Complete and utter humiliation.

Finished it this morning. Awesome for sure! Total beatdown

Remember sitting in the upper deck in 89 and all the drunk coots filing in. Some yelling "here Kitty, kitty". Boy did they shut up fast once the game started. Remember dodging the vomit on the ground as you left the stadium. That and the doo doo ice was a health hazard.
