Just realized Charlie Strong makes $3.7 million

Jun 24, 2013, 6:36 PM

That is $900,000 more than the highest paid ACC coach - Jimbo Fisher, and $1.6 million more than Dabo.

That is quite a disparity and why I think the addition of Louisville will be a huge bonus for ACC football. When you add schools that take football seriously enough to pay the big bucks, partly because they have the big bucks, then that puts pressure on the other member schools to do the same.

The addition of Louisville will have a ripple effect throughout the conference. Better pay means better coaches and better coaches means better football, and on it goes.

Louisville gave Charlie Strong a chance when others

Jun 24, 2013, 7:38 PM

wouldn't, and that's why he reciprocated this past year. You have to admire the commitment shown by the school and Coach Strong to each other, as well as the apparent commitment and celebration by the Cards' community of their new affiliation with the ACC. A very wise move, I think, by the ACC.

Yep! Charlie was offered more money to go to I forgot where, but he turned it down. That, is showing that he appreciates all that Louisville has done for him.

The one thing lville will not allow to happen is to have one

Jun 24, 2013, 8:29 PM

Of their coaches outbid by the sec. He is there to stay and his program is likely to get stronger now. My next door neighbors are big ku fans and realize that they will continue to improve their football product. He has many things going for him that are to his advantage

SEC couldnt buy Strong...LOL that says a lot about

Most UT fans would hated him b/c he wife is White. One bad season and they'd have been calling for his head. Most Vols make Mississippians look progressive. Obviously he's a winner. Glad to seeing him doing so well.

Just curious what his staff makes

Jun 24, 2013, 7:59 PM

Dabo could make much more if he didn't pass it on to his assistants

Re: Just curious what his staff makes

Jun 24, 2013, 8:19 PM

You're right and, Dabo has proven that the means to having a winning FB program means more to him than the money.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think dabo is sacrificing now for what will payoff later.

He wants to win and has made good business choices for the future

Only at Clemson!

Re: Just curious what his staff makes

Jun 26, 2013, 7:36 AM

Comparing Strong to Dabo is ludicrous. Dabo inherited very good players, a fine football tradition, and overwhelming support by Clemson fans from the start (I'll never understand that one--probably due to his "salesmanship" skills), even though most knew next to nothing about the man or his coaching abilities. Charlie was instantly compared with Pitino, has to recruit, and win over fans--no small feat at Louisville. He is an exceptional coach!

Louisville will instantly become the best Athletics program in the ACC. Shows how pathetic the conference really is.

Louisville has had one of the best athletic years in history

Jun 25, 2013, 12:05 AM

A BCS Bowl win, Basketball NC, and a CWS appearance. As a whole the ACC is not pathetic, a few other schools to reach they're potential in football

Will having to bring recruiting standards in line with ACC
academic standards have any effect on Louisville in the
future?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Would that be the same recruiting standards UNC follows?

Dude is a boss and I hope he is our next coach. However, a bigger football school will come calling before SOS is gone. I'm just glad he turned down UTenn.

Ok, but I can still hope so, right? He is a great coach, so why wouldn't I like to have him as our next coach, regardless of his intent. What about my comments seem to imply I'm 12 years old?

Cupton - I have noticed you often can take a rather benign thread topic and still find a way to make negative and mean-spirited comments to individual posters. I don't know why you do this in a thread that is unrelated to or provoking smack talk. It doesn't add to what is otherwise a decent disccussion among football fans.

Re: Just realized Charlie Strong makes $3.7 million

Jun 25, 2013, 9:19 AM

Yeah everyone thought Louisville would be a stepping stone for Strong but he put a good team together and LU put out the money and made the move to a better conference. He has the chance to build a program from the middle tier and take it somewhere. Im glad we were able to get them in the ACC.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Just realized Charlie Strong makes $3.7 million

Jun 26, 2013, 2:28 AM

IIRC, his new contract is for like 8 years or something. U of L made a smart move to lock him up long term. If a big football school was to come calling, they'd have to pony up a lot of cash.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Just realized Charlie Strong makes $3.7 million

Jun 26, 2013, 7:28 AM

Actually, Louisville probably has the best 3 coaches of any NCAA schools (combined, I mean) in the three major sports.
