Julian Rochester commits to UGA

May 28, 2015, 11:12 PM

"I am solid," Rochester said. "Unless Coach Richt, Coach Jeremy Pruitt and Coach Kevin Scheffer all leave, I am all Dawg." http://247sports.com/Article/Five-star-DL-Julian-Rochester-commits-to-UGA-37476301

The dawgs have also received verbals from DT's David Marshall and Tyler Clark. Oh well, let's move forward. Time to put some focus on Dexter Lawrence, Nyles Pinckney, and Rashan Gary. Here's a little bit on each- (needs to be updated probably)

DT- Dexter Lawrence 6-5 310 Wake Forest, NC WFHS

24/7 5* No. 3 DT, 14 overall. A 5* guy from Rivals, # 2 DT and #9 overall. 5* from 24/7, #3 DT, #4 overall. CU was the first to offer. He was on campus for the 2013 Clemson vs UGA game. Worth noting that his mother would prefer it if he stayed closer to home. Holds offers from Fla, FSU, Miami, Mich, MichSt, UNC, Ark, NCSU, scar, and others. "We knew he was big, and we knew that he could be a great high school football player when he came here in the ninth grade,” said Wake Forest coach Reggie Lucas. “But he has gotten a lot better. He is really big, strong and surprisingly quick for someone that size.” Read more here: http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2014/12/11/5378876/wake-forests-big-lineman-has-huge.html#storylink=cpy

A fan of who?- "My childhood favorite team was the Gators. I kind of grew up around that area, and my granddad lives (in Ocala)and he's a Gators fan," Lawrence said.

The latest- Received an invite to Nike's 'The Opening Camp'. Also just received a nomination for the US Army AA Game. Visited NC State in April. Should be attending camp this summer. He has visited UNC and plans on visiting Ark, Ole Miss, and Bama.

What he's looking for in a school- "Just if the schools are family-oriented, if they do things together," Lawrence said. "All of the coaches into every day and on you, because that's what I'm in right now at my high school.

"All the coaches, if they're religious. Playing as a true freshman, I just want to go somewhere I can play as a freshman."

DT- Derrick Brown 6-4 275 Buford, GA Lanier HS

5* 97 grade by 24/7 composite, #2 DT, #5 overall. An ESPN Top 300, #11 DT, #93 overall, 4*, 83 grade. 5.0 40 yard dash, 335 bench, and 505 squat. Offered on 1-21-14. Unofficial visit on 7-20-14. Has offers from Bama, Aub, BYU, ECU, CU, and others. Has visited Vandy, Bama, Miss St, and CU. Played extremely well in the Rising Senior Bowl, where he garnered four solo tackles, five assisted tackles, two sacks and one forced fumble. Named MVP by the AJC. Named UGA as his favorite in February 15 with Auburn at No. 2. Made visits to UGA, Aub, Ole Miss, Tenn, Miss St.
Film: http://www.hudl.com/athlete/2213642/derrick-brown

From an interview, Who are you talking to most? "Georgia, Auburn, Coach Elliot from Clemson, and Vandy." Let's discuss Clemson. "Clemson, I like their atmosphere. I like the small town. It depends on what I'm looking for in the school." Auburn is an exciting program, as well. What about them? "Auburn's got a lot of stuff going for them. What I'm looking at with them is how many people come in with that class. I kind of want to play as a true freshman."

Quick Note- An athletic big man in the middle who has not even tapped into his potential. Very long arms, light on his feet, and likely a three-tech on the next level. Athletic enough to play some five-technique too. http://hswashington.scout.com/story/1394777-south-2016-ranking-notes
Brown's film-

Short read- “Obviously he’s got the measurables,” Lanier head coach Korey Mobbs said. “He’s 6-4, weighing in at about 305. Just the way that he moves for a 300-pounder, is really like watching a 200-pounder move around. He’s got the rare ability, the quick-twitch fiber would be a good way to put it. He’s just explosive.
“To see a guy of such stature move with such explosiveness is not something that you see very often. He had a real good sophomore year, and this past year, his junior year, he blew up as far as recruiting and I think that was because of his play and his progression on the field, 17.5 sacks for a 300-pounder is almost unheard of, and that’s just the kind of player he is.” http://www.gwinnettprepsports.com/news/2015/feb/19/gwinnett8217s-2016-recruits-among-georgia8217s/

DT Nyles Pinckney 6'3 290 Seabrook, SC Whalebranch HS

Recently visited for the spring game. For his junior season, he had 78 tackles ,9as sacks, 27 TFL', 10 FF, 8 recoveries, and blocked three field goals. In 2013, 61 tkls, 17 TFL, 6 sacks, 10 FFs. As a freshman, Pinkney 91 tkls, 16 TFL, 7 sks. 24/7 composite gives him a 4* rating, the #21 DT, and 238 overall. #15 DT, #115 overall by Rivals. 4* #21 DT, 257 overall by ESPN. 4.91 40. Attended 2014 CDS camp. Vistited on 9/27/14 and recently attended the CU beatdown of scar. Was impressed by the crowd and said early playing time is also a plus. Says CU, UGA, and Scar are recruiting him hardest but has no official favorites as of yet. He's been to CU more than any other campus. Named Island Packet/Beaufort Gazette's All-Area Defensive Player of the Year. The Latest- Tony Elliott visited him on Thursday April 23rd.

March 25th When Pinckney returns to Death Valley on April 11 for the Tigers' spring game it will be the site of his first unofficial visit and first scholarship offer.

"They really want me to come back up," he said. "They told me since they have signing day out of the way that they are starting to recruit the Class of 2016 hard."

The 6-foot-3, 290-pounder admitted that Clemson holds a special place in his heart for a number of reasons.

"I just really like the coaches at Clemson," he said. "I really like (Tigers defensive line coach) Dan Brooks, (area recruiter) Tony Elliott and (head coach) Dabo Swinney. They always make me feel like they really want me up there. I always feel like they looked at me when nobody else gave me a chance. They saw something in me that nobody else really did."

DT- Rashan Gary 6-4 290 Paramus, New Jersey Paramus Catholic

Recently chosen as NJ Defensive POTY and the 2016 Under Armour AA Game. 24/7 also gave him a 10 out of 10 on athleticism, a 9 on explosiveness and size, and an 8 on first step and strength. Clocked a 4.74 40, 350 bench, 520 squat, and a 34" vertical. Has over 40 offers including Bama, FSU, UGA, UT, PSU, and others. "For the spring, I know me and coach Partridge talked about taking visits to Pitt, Clemson, LSU, South Carolina and Alabama," Gary, the Paramus (N.J.) Catholic junior defensive end told NJ Advance Media, Monday. "So those are visits I'm gonna take with my d-line coach (John Westervelt)." Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0exLbxXid9Y

Predictions: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2371948-odds-on-where-monster-5-star-dt-rashan-gary-lands-at-next-level

Short Read: But all eyes will be on Gary, the five-star defensive lineman, as he prepares for his final season with the Paladins.
The 6-4, 280-pounder spent his junior season at defensive end where he compiled 55 tackles and 14 sacks using his rare blend of speed, size and athleticism.

Scout East Regional Manager Brian Dohn said Gary's future is at defensive tackle, and it's easy to understand why NJ.com's Defensive Player of the Year is the country's most-coveted recruit.
"When you take a guy of that size and that athleticism, it's so rare, that you know he's special," Dohn said. "Some kids get that and will be good college players, but his size and his speed is just (special). He ran like a 4.84 or something like that. I mean the kid's 285 pounds. He competes really hard." http://highschoolsports.nj.com/news/article/-7860716264889573792/paramus-catholics-rashan-gary-named-countrys-top-prospect-in-first-recruiting-ranking-for-class-of-2016/

DT Antwuan Jackson 6-2 285 Ellenwood, GA Cedar Grove High

4* prospect from ESPN, 83 grade, #10 DT, #73 overall. 4* #8 DT by 24/7. 4* #7 DT and #63 overall on Rivals. Received an invitation to Nike's elite The Opening event. Runs a 5.23 40, 4.87 shuttle, 22.2" vertical, and graded out at 63.15. Holds offers from Bama, Aub, scar, Cincy, CU, Oregon, UT, and most majors. Has a very explosive first step. His brother, Bryson, plays at scar.
From The Opening Regional in Atlanta in March: "The Ellenwood (Ga.) Cedar Grove standout showed a very quick first step and an array of pass rush moves. He has spin moves like an end. Although his physical upside isn't the same as the two five-stars from his state, Jackson has the skill set to play across the front. Alabama, Auburn and Georgia are the major players for Jackson. "- Steve Wiltfong
Latest Update- “Clemson is definitely in my plans. I can see myself playing there. They are great coaches there and they are great people, and I have a great relationship with Coach (Marion) Hobby. It’s also a beautiful campus.”
Recently From The Opening[i/]- “It was one of the best visits I’ve ever been on, honestly, since I’ve been on this recruiting trip,” Jackson said. He was asked what stood out about Clemson and stated, "The campus is beautiful and I love the coaches." When asked if he planned on returning, "The spring, summer, fall, I’ll definitely be up there at least three more times or more,” Jackson said.

DT Malik Walker 6-1 260 Montezuma, GA Macon County.

I think we pushed hard for him and would have definitely taken him, it was just a foregone conclusion he was Georgia bound. Rochester is definitely a stud, but we have some good ones left on the board. Pinckney is real solid, and he will probably commit to Clemson. Don't think we have any shot with Brown. Toss up on Lawrence or Gary, but it would be phenomenal if we could land either. I never count our staff out of any recruiting battle.

Re: I don't think we really ever pushed for Julian that hard***

May 29, 2015, 3:24 AM

Not a huge push here from our coaches, same with Brown. Both Georgia or Auburn bound from day 1 (SEC myth is in their ears).
Jackson is an outside shot. Pinckney is a near lock. I'd say Lawrence and Gary are about equally likely, both are outside chances but we are absolutely in it at this point.

Haha you can always count on at least on response like this!***

Re: Julian Rochester commits to UGA

May 29, 2015, 6:39 AM

Seems like last year we were getting any recruit we wanted, now we are watching 2016 class slip away. What has changed? I am not usually paranoid but I believe all of this recent publicity is trumped up by people to defame and destroy Clemson's recruiting momentum and it's working! We need to focus on football and not become distracted by political ambushes from the liberals that hate us. We lost Yarborough now this Kid, Miami is getting anybody they want and FSU is killing us on the recruiting trail.....it's scary. Sorry to be such a downer but I fear where this is headed.

May 29, 2015, 9:46 AM [ in reply to Re: Julian Rochester commits to UGA ]

I wouldn't be so down about it. Its only end of May. We have camps in June and the All-in cookout in July (pretty sure). There are a ton of DT's and OL in this recruiting class and we are in good shape with many of them. We all knew this was going to be a smaller class so having 8 committed right now and maybe only 8 spots left I'd say we are halfway done.

I think we are still in good shape with R. Gary, and Pickney as DT's. Lawrence I'm not so sure about. He will stay close to home so we have a chance but still not sure.

OL we are in good shape with Bordeaux and Simpson and we already have Pollard. We could probably use 4 this cycle but 3 is good.

Majority of our focus is on the DL and OL and there is a lot of talent left out there.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So, if we sign Pinckney, Boudreaux, Simpson & Overton
