Well - McEnroe indicated that HE would be ranked ~ 1200, and since 1200 is worse than 700, then NO - He would probably not beat her (unless they played right now while she's pregnant).
Personally, I can't stand the woman.

Actually, McEnroe compare the current pro men v. the current pro women. Like Bobby Riggs when he played Bill King, McEnroe has been retired for a long time. In McEnroe's case, about 30 years.
Let Serena play Nadal, Federer, Djokovic, etc. And let her play best of 5 sets like the men do in the Grand Slams....She would be lucky to get a game.

Yes, but if you take out a 50 year age difference, and it is likely over almost immediately. Serena us clearly the greatestimate women's player ever, and yet still would be crushed by any pro under 40.

The thing is, it's John opinion. Simple as that. There's no way of ever knowing but if there's somebody who might, it'd be John. Whether he's right or not it's simply his opinion. It's like people aren't aloud to have an opinion anymore if it hurts somebody's feelings. People and the media need to grow up and put big boy underwear on over this subject. The man has a right to give his opinion.

And of corse Serena had to open her big mouth in response. I can only hope having this baby will end her tennis career. I love women's tennis and she is ruining it

bc she is so dominant? I don't really care for her either, but I don't see how she is ruining it?
That's like saying Tiger Woods ruined the PGA bc he won all the time.

tennis doesn't extend beyond looking at hot women in tennis skirts then just watch the hot women. There are plenty of non-Serena matches that get televised during the grand slam tournaments.

watching women play more than men.
They volley more, grunt better and wear short skirts. I prefer womens tennis to men by a large margin. I don't care if a guy can ace every other serve at 120 mph, I'd rather see actual volley action.

The modern day women players rarely venture to net. They stay at the baseline and hammer away. Men construct points and go to the net a lot more often.

From Wikipedia:
1998: Karsten Braasch vs. the Williams sisters[edit] Another event dubbed a "Battle of the Sexes" took place during the 1998 Australian Open[34] between Karsten Braasch and the Williams sisters. Venus and Serena Williams had claimed that they could beat any male player ranked outside the world's top 200, so Braasch, then ranked 203rd, challenged them both. Braasch was described by one journalist as "a man whose training regime centered around a pack of cigarettes and more than a couple bottles of ice cold lager".[35][36] The matches took place on court number 12 in Melbourne Park,[37] after Braasch had finished a round of golf and two beers. He first took on Serena and after leading 5–0, beat her 6–1. Venus then walked on court and again Braasch was victorious, this time winning 6–2.[38] Braasch said afterwards, "500 and above, no chance". He added that he had played like someone ranked 600th in order to keep the game "fun".[39] Braasch said the big difference was that men can chase down shots much easier, and that men put spin on the ball that the women can't handle. The Williams sisters adjusted their claim to beating men outside the top 350.

team with Mia Hamm and company that won the women's world cup back in 1999. Supposedly if they wanted a good challenge they would play either mens high school teams or high school aged club/travel teams. I don't remember the exact details but i know it was high school kids.

That's still common. The national team routinely loses to high school level teams on the run up to the World Cup.

UTR(Universal tennis rating) is a system used by tennis coaches worldwide to judge players. College coaches use it a lot for recruiting. Serena has a rating of 13.36. That's equal to a mid level D1 men's player. Clemson has 3 players on their team with higher UTRs than that right now and Clemson isn't even a great team. Serena would lose to several college players. Her current UTR is ranked behind roughly 2,000 men
People who know nothing about tennis hear 700 and think that's really bad or something. But the top 800 or so are players who usually play pro events full time, are top level college players or very promising junior players. I saw a guy on twitter say "I would probably be ranked 700 in the world in tennis and I know Serena would kick my butt!" I told him the 700 ranked player would beat him 6-0 6-0 with the 700 guy getting 1 serve and starting down 0-30 every game, I don't care how often this guy plays at his local club.
Serena's main advantage in the women's game is her overpowering shots. Vs men she wouldn't overpower anyone and her movement would be exposed (she's never been a great mover on the court).

they had, the truth of the matter is that a really good boy's high school basketball team would have beaten them. And probably beaten them badly.
