Never seen a left hand low for a full swing grip. I'm thinking he should be playing left handed. I've played forever and had 2. But I know guys that aren't any better than me or played any longer that have had a dozen or more. I just made my last one a month or so ago.

Maybe that's what I'm doing wrong.***

I'm with you, MyFO. I have bashed at this silly game for

Aug 24, 2020, 8:18 AM

forty years, hit FOUR flags on par 3's and none of the dang little white spheres would dive into the hole. Is is wrong to hate a 4 year old? :)

Maybe you should try it...

Aug 24, 2020, 8:39 AM

batting cross-handed and wearing Crocs.

I've had two holes-in one. The first one was No. 12 at Star Fort down in Ninety Six, SC. It was nearly dark and I didn't realize I had done it until we couldn't find my ball and one of my playing partners looked in the hole. The second one was No. 6 at River Falls during a captains choice tournament.

My closest was 4" directly behind the cup on #17 at Pebble Beach ...... don't know how it did not go in, but the sun was in my eyes and did not see it. Played Pebble 3 times, birdied #17 twice!

I bat cross handed and it got me kicked off of a high school baseball team because it was supposed to get my wrist broken. Then, I played golf that way for over 20 years until I have up the game.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I was sitting on the green on a dog leg par 4 and some

Aug 24, 2020, 9:29 AM

dude crushed a drive over the trees. The ball rolled up about 10 feet in front of the green. We picked it up and put it in the hole.

That guy went the rest of his life with his hole in one on a par 4.

This was at Bonnie Brae in Greenville.

Neal--- Was the old tenant house to the right of No. 1 tee box there when you played Bonnie Brae? Many years ago, a friend and I went to Bonnie Brae. The starter asked if we would play with two high school aged guys. The old tenant house had solid board windows and doors and all were open. The front porch sloped to the front. One of the boys hit a ball that went into the house through one of the open windows. We could hear it rambling in the room as we walked to the old house. Everyone of us were laughing and we laughed even harder when the ball rolled out the front door, down the porch and came to rest on top of a tuff of grass as if it had been placed there by a human hand. He ended up with a bogie.

I don't remember that. This was maybe 35 years ago

Aug 24, 2020, 11:51 AM

and my memory is no where near as good as yours. All I remember is that is was a dog leg left maybe near a road on the other side of the trees.

Might as well retire now.

Aug 24, 2020, 9:47 AM

But I know I'm spoiled from SC and all, but that WVA golf course looks just a shade better than the miniature golf courses at the Dirty Myrtle.

Well, he may never do it again but he at least has the proof ;) Hole in one on a par 3 at 4yo. Resume material right there.

I played for 50 years and was average 4 handicap. Never had one until one day in a tournament had one and in next couple of years had 2 more. Keep at it!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If you were a four handicap, trust me, you were WAY better

Aug 24, 2020, 10:41 AM

than average. I "peaked out" at a 6 for one month, when I foolishly posted a 70 and a couple of 71's. My "real" handicap, that I could play to, was a 10 for about 10 years, until the back problems started. Now, I occasionally make 10 on a single hole!

What I have found out, though, is that it doesn't matter as much what you shoot, as the people you play with. If all have similar games, you can have a roaring good time, bets and all, and shoot 90's.

I remember way back when I was good at the game, and a member of my local club. There was a group of about 8 local businessmen who would group up every Saturday, and play for a couple hundred bucks a round. I thought, these guys must be great at this game to gamble that kind of money. I ran up on them sitting around in the card room after the round, figuring up bets. They all shot around 100! But, they had a grand time beating each others brains out. Good times.

That's nothing..

Aug 24, 2020, 10:56 AM

When I was 8, I made two hole-in-ones in one round at a course in Cherry Grove. The Black Pearl I think it was.

WAY luckier than average. (Sure, there is skill involved with a hole-in-one, but it takes some luck as well.)

I played only 9 holes in my entire life....

Aug 24, 2020, 7:26 PM

went with my uncle who had been playing about 20 years when I was 14. Realized that he was no better than I was after just a couple of holes - figured that if someone could play as many years as he had and be no better than a beginner that I would never go onto a course again. Have much better luck on the lake fishing or in a deer stand.

I’ve been playing the game for 20 years and never had one. Hit a double eagle from around 180 on a shorter par 5 a few years back, but thats the closest I can claim. I have witnessed probably 5-6 playing with others. One with a guy who had played maybe 10 times in his life and considered a round under 120 a win. Another with my brother.. on a mulligan.. will never let him get away with counting that one ??

Keep at it MFO

Aug 25, 2020, 7:15 AM

I’ve had 7. Some skill, more just plain good fortune that it stops in the hole.

The best was a 235 yard 5 wood on opening par 5 that went in for a 2. Almost unstrapped and headed straight to car. Figured the day had nowhere to go except backwards from that point
