Why does it have eyebrows on one side but not the other?

At 49 yrs old, I have been going to the games all my life. My earliest recollections of games are early '70's. It was always a big thing for us young 'uns to see the scoreboard tiger's eyes light up and tail wag when we scored. I love that after all these years, sitting in essentially the same place in the stadium, my kids can watch that tiger do the same thing. That is rich, boys and girls.

I remember when it was first put up with a new scoreboard. The tail wagged, the eyes flashed and the Tiger roared. It was supposed to spit chewing tobacco too like Frank Howard but that rumor was quickly dashed.

It's just a bit of nostalgia and tradition for some us. And he growls!??

Only problem is does it work? I haven't seen the tail move in years. Needs to get back to operable.

old Tiger from the End Zone scoreboard. Maybe there is a place it can be displayed for historical/traditional purposes but it is hideous looking now.

Love my Tigers but vote to double size of end zone video board and retire the old tiger on top.

I beg your pardon, He Does Not look Hideous. He is part of a rich tradition. I guess you think a plastic one from China would be better? He can stay right where he is watching over our Tigers while they beat the stuffins out of our inferior opponents!!

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

we retired certain things due to political correctness.

Apr 22, 2017, 5:09 PM [ in reply to I've been going to games since 1964. Time to retire thel ]

Some I agree with and some I don't.

The Tiger on the scoreboard doesn't bother any group. It is a tradition back before 1964, when I started going to Clemson games. It excites kids and those of us that still find it a bit of nostalgia,
fun and a connection of generations.

Let me guess - you are one of the people that agreed with Hootie about not Running Down the Hill and find The Slide in Dabo World childish and overdoing things.

There is nothing more fun than a football game at Clemson for most young and young at heart Tiger fans.

It's TRADITION!!!

As someone who remembered that Tiger from Coach Howard's tenure, anybody wanting it gone is stepping on a tradition of historic importance. While "modern" is fine there are elements of history which need to remain at Clemson. This is clearly one.

Go Tigers!

Sorry. Just my opinion.

Apr 23, 2017, 2:28 PM [ in reply to I've been going to games since 1964. Time to retire thel ]

I watched the glowing eyes and wagging tail as a child and loved it.

I've missed 1 home game since 1974. I've been to 45 straight Clemson/Carolina games. I understand Clemson tradition very well. I just don't like the 1960's look of the scoreboard tiger and feel it needs to be upgraded.

I liked my parents' silver Christmas tree and the color wheel too. I liked the Washington Post as a Clemson pre-game band tradition. Our football field had a huge crown which favored the running game. I love everything Clemson.

My point is: It could be so much better.

Go Tigers. Win it all ! ... again

I was on campus with #1 son looking at college homes for him. I loved showing him Riggs, Calhoun Courts, the 6th floor of the library and all of the other places that hold so many memories for ole 8992Tiger. The scoreboard tiger is similar. I liked pointing it out to #1 and #2 sons when they were yoynger and telling them that 8992Tiger and his bro also used to watch him light up. There is nothing like seeing those artifacts still in use and contributing to a new generationn of Tiger cub's memories. I say keep it up forever.

Folks who look at Clemson for the first time and see that tiger alongside our best-in-class facilities will certainly know that it is a tradition, a warm memory of the past that coexists with world class facilities. It is a mark of a program that honors its past and those who were a part of it, that loves its present and looks forward to its future.
