I've always been curious...

Why we hold so strongly to the belief of "Once a Tiger, Always a Tiger" for the players only to treat certain coaches like trash, usually based upon a Win/Loss record?

Isn't this ridiculous and exactly contrary to Swinney's comments regarding how he won't let a Win/Loss record define him?

Go Tigers, past, present and future!!

Coaches are doing it for money.

Yes and no. Look how many past Clemson players are on this staff. Its incredible money for a really fun but stressful job. But these guys love Clemson. Dabo and his family have grown to love Clemson just as much.

Right. So that doesn't sound like Ken Hatfield at all.

Which coaches were you (OP) referring to that aren't treated like always a Tiger? Tommy Bowden says some petty jabs at Clemson, especially the first few years after getting the boot. I'd say the ex-coaches bring it on themselves.

Likewise for players. I don't think anyone considers Swag AK-47 Kelly a Tiger.

I'm not old enough to remember Pell or anyone before him. But everyone after him I have a certain amount of fondness for or, at least, some good memories EXCEPT...I don't know if you were there for the Ford -> Hatfield switch-over but I still root against Rice (Hatfield's next school that he's been gone from for YEARS) I disliked that guy so much. I felt like what he brought in was kind of the antithesis of Clemson football and I disavow his affiliation with my school and program.

With all bias thrown aside I can say "I don't know anything about Ken Hatfield that says he's a bad person" but I sure as hell didn't like the way he coached our football team. The other guys, well, they weren't so bad.

Seriously, though, Ken Hatfield? I can't stand that guy to this day.

Also, 'once a Tiger, always a Tiger' is a choice a Coach makes. Pell, for instance, left to become a Gator. Student athletes rarely leave Clemson to go be at another school.

The flaw in your question is the word "we"

Geville Tiger on Clemson football , "Dabo's only problem is he has to deal with turd fans questioning every move he makes.”
