Braves facing a lefty today, so Uggla is

May 14, 2014, 1:09 PM

still not playing. He is officially second string to Tyler Pastornicky now.

It looks like the Braves are willing to give Tyler a shot at the full-time job at second base, in which case they will not bring up La Stella, and there is no need for Uggla to go anywhere. That reduces his role to a pinch hitter, and probably the Braves' third option at that.

Anybody that is a backup to Pastornicky deserves an outright

release.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Who would you replace him with?***

May 14, 2014, 1:11 PM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

My point is that Pastornicky is awful. If Uggla can't play

May 14, 2014, 1:11 PM

in front of him then he needs to be gone.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

My point is...you don't just drop him for no reason.

May 14, 2014, 1:13 PM

The Braves will release Uggla when they feel they need to. If they're not calling anyone up or trading for anyone, then they there is no need to make a change to the 25-man roster.

If Pastornicky doesn't cut it, then they may call up La Stella, and then Uggla would have to be gone.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Agree but he isn't going to improve by not playing either.***

May 14, 2014, 1:15 PM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Oh, I don't think the Braves think he will improve.

May 14, 2014, 1:15 PM

I think that is very clear.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

They're probably still kicking the tires on a trade, too.

May 14, 2014, 1:20 PM [ in reply to Agree but he isn't going to improve by not playing either.*** ]

I did read that Toronto had some interest. Any deal involving Uggla would have the Braves paying all but a couple million or so on his remaining deal, and getting a marginal prospect in return. But it's better than nothing.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

They will be lucky to get a dozen used baseballs and a

May 14, 2014, 1:21 PM

broken bat for him.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yes. I think a release is still more likely.

May 14, 2014, 1:22 PM

But the Braves will not do that until there is a need to remove him from the roster.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You should probably send the White Sox a

pitching prospect for Gordon Beckham now. He needs to be back down south in his comfort zone.

badge-donor-05yr.jpgringofhonor-aero.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Don't think so. They probably believe La Stella

May 14, 2014, 1:28 PM

Could do as well or better than Beckham.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Drats. I don't know what happened with him.***

May 14, 2014, 1:32 PM

badge-donor-05yr.jpgringofhonor-aero.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It's worth noting that Toronto and Atlanta are two of the

seven teams in MLB who are getting a sub-.600 OPS from their 2nd basemen so far this year. Texas, San Diego, and St. Louis are even worse than Atlanta. Cardinals 2Bs are OPSing .486 (mainly Mark Ellis and Kolten Wong).

May 14, 2014, 3:15 PM

Kolton Wong just got called back up today....FYI

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The Rev is leading off today, by the way.

May 14, 2014, 1:12 PM

Heyward getting the day off against Bumgarner.

May 14, 2014, 1:13 PM

to allow for another "leadoff" guy in front of Freeman . . . why not just move everyone down a spot and slot that second leadoff guy at 1 or 2?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So Freeman hits more often.***

May 14, 2014, 1:14 PM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Pitcher back at the 9 spot today, by the way.

May 14, 2014, 1:15 PM

Might just be because Heyward isn't playing, so the typical 9-hitter (Rev) is leading off for real.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think Gonzalez is over thinking it

May 14, 2014, 1:16 PM [ in reply to So Freeman hits more often.*** ]

The Braves need someone with speed who doesn't strikeout, if Pastornicky is it, then great

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The Braves need someone who gets on base to lead off

May 14, 2014, 1:17 PM

And to hit second. Speed is a nice bonus, but hardly the most important.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The thing that frustrates me the most is the strikeouts

May 14, 2014, 1:19 PM

These are major league batters yet they can't seem to make contact with the ball. That and lefties who refuse to abuse the shift

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Which lefties refuse to abuse the shift?

May 14, 2014, 1:21 PM

Freeman? You want the Braves' best hitter to go up there bunting or something?

The strikeout hitters were strikeout hitters before they came to Atlanta, and always will be.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

that one is not really a braves issue***
