Here's what a catch is in the NCAA rulebook

Dec 29, 2019, 1:13 AM

"Secures control of a live ball in flight before the ball touches the ground, and touches the ground in bounds with any part of his body, and then maintains control of the ball long enough to enable him to perform an act common to the game, i.e., long enough to pitch or hand the ball, advance it, avoid or ward off an opponent, etc."

Says nothing about steps, so don't be fooled by people saying taking 2 or 3 steps constitutes a catch. That call was definitely close, so I won't pretend we didn't catch a bit of a break, but I also see the lettering of the rule being on our side.

Didn't look like a catch in real time, and it didn't meet the parameters of a catch. So, as rough of a call as it was of OSU, the reversal of the call seemed to be the right one.

It 100% looked like an incomplete pass at full speed

and 100% looked like a fumble when slowed down.

I think they got the call right, but it was close.

You know what looks like a catch more? When you freeze the video.

It was close only if you didn't read what OP just posted

Ref made overturn very quickly like it was no doubt in his mind.
Me I wasn’t so sure.

made no bones about it, very quickly, that it was not a catch. He was very confident.

Welp, he couldn’t advance it or ward off the defender...

So it was the right call.

Boohoohoo.

I don’t like these descriptions because that would mean his catch on the sideline against Bama was not a catch when clearly it was. To me the best they could have done was say the call stands. We caught a nice break.

Well apparently you know more than the replay booth

The booth ref didn't hesitate for one second and I totally agree. You can't look at that play in slow motion, and they were showing it over and over and over in SUPER SLOW MOTION. They showed it like twice out of ten replays in real time.

It was not close. It was as easy to call as all of the other reviews were. It's that simple. Goooooo Tigers!

You have to look in slow motion when the call on the field was fumble..

Be honest here, if replay stepped in 3 times to cause a 17 point swing against your team, how would you be feeling right now?

I'd be annoyed that the on-field guys were so bad.

Seriously, the one true 50/50 judgement (the fumble/not fumble) I still feel was correct, and the rest were definitely correct. You guys played a hell of a game, no doubt. But if Dobbins holds onto that ball, you probably win. If your guy keeps his head up and doesn't target, you probably win. Etc. Gotta make the plays that are in your control so that the refs don't have a chance to screw it up for you.

What are you going to deny the targeting call which was textbook or the roughing the punter that was textbook as well.

The fumble was borderline, but who knows how that changes the game. Maybe we score right after and beat you by more.

Go back to Ohio and enjoy some cheese with your whine along with Day.

See ya!

When does forward progress comes into play? Our wr was pushed back 4 yards before he lost the ball.
