Dec 17, 2019, 3:34 PM

There have been 24 available spots for the CFP since its inception.

There have been several "Blue-Blood" programs that have yet to make an appearance.

I'm looking at you:

-Michigan
-Texas
-Nebraska
-Penn State
-USC
-Tennessee
-Auburn
-Florida
-Miami

Anyjuan else ??

If that's supposed to be Florida St, they were in it the first year. Undefeated and coming off their MNC, so they couldn't be left out, but were very overrated.

Half of those teams are not considered blue bloods to start with. Notre Dame and Southern Cal are blue bloods.

Clemson is not and nationally will never be a blue blood.

There are eight teams considered to be blue bloods. They are:

Alabama
Notre Dame
Ohio State
Oklahoma
Southern Cal
Michigan
Texas
Nebraska

Nebraska has lost the card and is unlikely to get it back. When they left the Big 8, they lost their way. They will never get it back in the Big 10. The old formula doesn't work any more for them.

The old formula was- Midwest lineman redshirts, starts as 5th year after 4 years of lifting weights (when other teams were not, they were the first), take jucos at skill positions and pick off a few from the Southeast, beat up on an easy Big 8 conference.

The others are still pertinent, but less dominant, save Alabama and OSU.

not sure if Texas should be on that list

Their history is actually not as good as you would think

Your statement is about 50% correct. Not all the teams on that list are considered "blue bloods". If you've won 5+ National Championships in the modern-era you're a blue blood.

Clemson is 2 NC's away from legit blue blood status. Once a program reaches 5, they're in.

There aren't many teams that have won 5+ in the Modern Era. That would be Alabama, Miami, Nebraska, and Southern Cal, by my count.

(1970 starts modern era)

All those teams will be back at some point with the right coach. If Clemson can be led out of the desert, all these great programs can.

Most of these “blue bloods” are that because of graduate numbers. And numbers are eyes on TVs and Butts in seats. And that is cash in the bank.
