If Chad doesn't get approached or offered at Vandy

Jan 9, 2014, 2:01 PM

Then I think he is definitely here at least until the end of this season. There aren't any other good FBS openings left are there? So he'll wait it out until the next carousel. Works out better for him AND Clemson I think.

I'm not sure Vandy would be considered a good FBS opening

Jan 9, 2014, 2:05 PM

It's a stepping stone job like many non-BCS programs.

It's good for exactly that reason - SEC and springboard

to other jobs. There is nothing even close left is there? Vandy certainly has good visibility now. Since Chad is so solid in his current job I can't see him rolling the dice for a non-playoff qualifying team or one that has no chance at the six remaining bowls in the rotation. Maybe he might, but it would be a surprise.

Vandy has ended more careers than it has bolstered....

Jan 9, 2014, 2:20 PM

That said, I do agree with you in that Vandy is a better job now than it was a few years ago but it is still a stepping stone type job (at best), and frankly I don't see Morris accepting a job at a school like that. If he is patient (and he has that luxury), there will be better opportunities for him.

We agree. Morris has a great gig right now.

Jan 9, 2014, 2:27 PM

But I don't see it is out of the question he might look hard at Vandy mostly because it's the last chance this time around. Since he's already interviewed a number of times, what's one more?

If I bet on it, I'd bet that Morris stays. But he's certainly a part of all the buzz on Vandy right now. But so are their coordinators and guys like Ragin Cajun Hudspeth.

What would be a good starting point. Doubtful he will be offered anything more prominent than the Vandy job to start his head coaching career. If Georgia Tech opened up that might be an option because they would most likely be looking for a change from what they have now. He might have some trouble getting the players he needs into Tech.

I could be wrong but seriously doubt Coach Morris

Jan 9, 2014, 2:09 PM

would be highly interested in the Vandy job. It is a better job than it was 5 years ago but he is a smart man and will continue to wait for the right HC job. After all, he is the HIGHEST paid coordinator in the country. Hard to believe we may hang on to him for another year though, great for Clemson.

Morris isn;t going anywhere, he will be a MAC coach at best. just doesn;t have the time in OC position long enough.

Louisville is a bigger job than when Strong showed up. They actually won some and look at his resume, national Champ Fla, longtime D coord, etc

Coach V has a better chance at a decent HC job than Morris due to his experience

Heck, he'll probably get fired at the end of this season!!***

Franklin proved that Vandy is a job that can get you to better places. (sans NCAA crap, PSU could be a top 5 gig). Gerry DiNardo did it before too.

If Morris is looking at this pessimistically, then he's not a good coach and someone I don't want at Clemson. If he makes Vandy competitve, then he'll write his own ticket to other places. Problem is that Vandy was in the crapper from Caldwell/Johnson, which gave Franklin more room to improve. Caldwell wasn't a HC. He only got the job because Johnson quit a month before the season began.

I think if Vandy offers, he'll go without a doubt. He can't wait much longer because he may never get a chance if so. But he's got to get the offer. Wake went another direction and didn't really consider Chad, and I think he would have taken that job too.

I don't think Chad would take Wake or Vandy. He needs to be able to recruit guys that can run his offense and I don't see either of those doing it on a consistent basis.

Vanderbilt. You can't maintain success at Vandy. I don't care who you are. Morris wouldn't have anywhere to go but down.

If Vandy was terrible and fired their coach, then that is a good stepping stone job... like Franklin.

But as it now stands, you're setting yourself up for failure. With what Morris is getting paid, he can afford to wait around on Maryland to fire Edsall, WVA to fire Holgorsen, or some similar program.
