If anyone wants to see pure insanity

Jan 9, 2021, 1:36 PM

Come to palmetto state armory in the low county. Walked in for a new cc 9mm and I’ve been in line for over 1.5hrs and watched ARs flying off shelf with extra mags going 5+ at a time.

Same goes for Palmetto State Armory in Greenville and Columbia. They especially can’t keep ammo. Went to that new store in Clemson, Deep South Defense, I believe, and a sales clerk said as soon as they get it in, it’s all snatched up.

I mentioned this yesterday because I constantly monitor the ammo market and watched things take off after 1/6.Hmmmmm wonder why!?

Re: If anyone wants to see pure insanity

It's crazy anywhere there's a firearm or ammo for sale even auctions. I'm sure Palmetto Armory prices reflect the demand. $500 to $600 ARs in February and March have now about doubled. Rimfire 22 ammo that used to cost between 5 - 6 cents each is now quadruple at most places and 357 and 44 magnum ammo is now $2 a shell. You're lucky if you can even find hunting rifle ammo (243, 270, 30-06, 30-30 or 308). I know for a fact that AK-47 good quality ammo was $189 per 1000 rounds in February and it's over $475 per 1000 rounds now for the cheap/dirty brand.

Good luck for those buyers getting ammo for those ARs. If you can find .223 or 5.6x45 (NATO) ammo, its $750 - $1000 for a 1000 rounds. Before COVID, .223 and 5.6x45, AR ammo was $280 - $320 per 1000 rounds and now sellers only get it sporadically.

I stopped going to shops for ammo a while back. Strictly on line. I can always find it and it come to my door.

What is worse is trying to get a shooting lane.

That's pitiful how some people react to stupid stuff. What is scary is that there are a lot of people who have never handled guns going out and buying guns and ammo without having a clue how to use them. Most people that know what they are doing already have guns and ammo.

What you don’t realize I’m guessing is for people who conceal carry that actually go to the range often and shoot. After a few years and 20000 or so rounds the weapon may not be as reliable as it was. So buying a new every day carry gun every couple years is wise imo.

Jan 9, 2021, 7:58 PM

I realize that, as I have been messing with guns for 60 years and spent 20 years in the Marine Reserves ..... been around lots of guns and done a lot of shooting. My brother ran the pistol range and taught shooting for a large police department for many years. I'm just not big on panic buying, whether it is toilet paper, guns, or ammunition. I would guess that most people that know how to use a weapon already have one. I'm not dissing anyone who buys a gun, as it it their right, but I sure wish they would find some proper training and wish they had bought it under normal times (if there are any). It runs up the price for everyone else.

Why is it people reacting to stupid stuff? I have never owned a handgun and don't really want one now, but I have considered getting my CCP recently. It is not like I want a gun without knowing how to use, handle and store it properly. I just believe that it will be easier to limit the opportunity to obtain a gun and the license to carry it than to take it away in the future. Why is a concern of the infringement of 2nd Amendment rights limited to current gun owners? If you do not think that the new administration will try to make changes in gun laws, that's fine, but I wouldn't classify people's concerns as "stupid stuff".

Yea, prices suck. At least you found some and at a better price than Bulkammo.com.
Their price is $65 + shipping for 50 rounds of 9mm, 124 grain JHP. Depending on what brand, grain and tip you bought, those 50 round boxes were probably about $20 each in March.

A friend of mine in the firearm industry told me about 6-8 months ago that the bottle neck with ammo is that there are only a few primer manufacturers and that they can’t keep up with the demand so the pipeline is sporadic. I think someone else here a while back might have made mention of this as well.

Yep, but there are plenty of shotgun primers. One of my friends is machining his cartridges to take a shotgun primer. Not everyone (very few actually) have that capability.

I mostly think of my young children. Call me a doomsdayer if you will but there’s a chance in 30 years when they are my age that guns will not be available at all the way they are now. Having a nice collection is an investment to most people who have “arsenals” in their basement. Not because it makes them feel like a man. It’s no different than collecting bottle caps or baseball cards. A collection is a collection. And a nice firearm collection will be worth money as time goes by and prices go up.

Jan 9, 2021, 7:38 PM

just in my lifetime. I think the first time was my uncle who stocked up in the late 60s, because of all the social and political unrest... race riots, hippies, Vietnam War protests, marxists & communists in government, etc. The takeover was imminent, and the "last days prophesies" of Revelations were in plain sight, unless you were a damm fool and refused to acknowledge it.

[I remember as a child after a "fire and brimstone, the world is ending soon" sermon at a church and I was scared... my Mom said - Don't worry, son... my grandmother said they told her the same thing. Mom was born in 1917, her Mom in 1880, so her grandmother had to be around the Civil War]. LOL

Let's see. The riots in the 90s after the Rodney King verdict. 9/11. The Y2K freakout on TV every night, the world as we knew it would end, and everybody will be on their own. Glenn Beck crying about the total downfall of America, but it would be OK if you bought some of his gold coins and built a bunker. And guns, don't forget guns. And plenty of ammo. And canned food.

Then later - Obama is coming to get our guns! That set off a nice buying spree, for at least a decade....

Ammo is scarce now for the same reason the milk and bread aisles in Greenville are empty when 2 flakes of snow fall in Asheville. Supply & demand. Companies make a lot of money based on fear.

Biden has stated that he would like to take away AR's and highly tax large capacity magazines. With getting all the stars lined up in his favor he will leave his anti America stamp on our country.
Taking guns or taxing magazines so high that only the elite can have is part of his plan. Watch and see.

weapons like those would have the guts to point them at another person(s) and pull the triggers.

Ask any active duty or retired DI, NCO or Officer in the military charged with training troops for combat. It's more than a physical ability to fire a weapon; it takes a psychological ability, as well.

I have been told not to buy guns from Palmetto Amour. The don’t not use the same parts from the same company when building their going NS. There is no increase in value. If you pay $400 for a gun their 20 years from now you still have $400 gun. Buying from places that sale Sig, Gulock, Smith & Wesson, Springfield you will have guns that accrue in value place a quality fire arm.

Gun Show at Shrine Club in Wellford today. Check online for times.

Good Luck.

I buy from T & K Outdoors in Spartanburg, SC never have to wait long they have everything top quality fair prices.
