That is really stupid

Feb 12, 2014, 8:48 PM

Why limit the offense? Conditioning is part of the game and this is just bs. I do realize that it won't impact fast offenses but what if an offense wants to snap sooner .. Where is common sense ?

They are trying to protect the sec name as being the best by Saban rules.

Got to make sure Bama wins the Iron bowl next year. Cant have Bama getting upset by new fangled ways of doing things. Guess if this does not work they can make passing routes longer than 10 yards a penalty.

"Research indicated that teams with fast-paced, no-huddle offenses rarely snap the ball with 30 seconds or more on the play clock."

No HUNH offenses are snapping it in under 10 seconds anyway.

So do this increases the number of delay of game penalties for the offenses?*** Possible dictator of how a game outcome will be. Advantage DEFENSE.

Re: that is really going to come into play during the "2-minute

Feb 13, 2014, 3:49 AM

The final two minutes will actually be the exception to the rule so it still won't change a whole lot, but overall I say if it's not broke don't fix it. I do like the fact that they will be changing around the targeting penalty though, whoever came up with that crap was probably educated by the university of the fearsome chicken.

This is funny to me. Most HUNH teams rarely snap the ball

Feb 17, 2014, 4:50 PM

in the first 10 sec (we almost never do). So now the D gets to sub within the first 10 sec on every play...that doesn't mean we have to slow down, but rather just have to wait the 10 sec, which we do already. If the D's still running on and off the field, that's their problem.

I believe the end result will be that teams actually run faster than before, trying to catch the D in the middle of a substitution.

Re: This is funny to me. Most HUNH teams rarely snap the ball

Feb 17, 2014, 11:00 PM

Good Point. But, how soon will the ref. signal to start the clock. Remember he's standing over the ball before play. They can dictate the tempo of the game as well. Allowing a team of noninterest to get substitutes on the field before the ten second start.

My guess would be so the teams don't get penalized for spiking the ball to stop the clock.

It will be interesting to see if OCs can find a way to exploit the new rule.
