Sec and big 12 made a truce last year called the Champions bowl.

Re: Why would the SEC go after a ACC teams and not

Dec 18, 2012, 8:29 PM

Several reasons. The ACC schools would be a more natural fit. The North Carolina and Duke gain would be a NC footprint and national basketball for the SEC to show off. The Virginia Tech and NC St. would probably be a backup entry but still adds markets and a more natural fit. We of course will be on the outside looking in. That may or not play out to our advantage.

OK and OK st have signed their rights away to the B12. Even if they left, the SEC could not get the rights to their games.

How do you figure? Do contracts suddenly mean something?***

UNC and Duke aren't leaving The ACC

Dec 18, 2012, 9:38 PM [ in reply to Re: Why would the SEC go after a ACC teams and not ]

just isn't happening. UNC doesn't have a money problem they will never leave The ACC. UVA or VaTech will not be leaving The ACC not going to happen, NcState isn't leaving The ACC. The Big12 has lost 4 members because they have issues and for some reason a lot of people on this board can't see them because of their dislike of The ACC. Long term the Big12 is in far worse shape than The ACC. I know its not popular on this board but The ACC is in good shape too add another member and put pressure on Notre Dame to come on board full time with the pending disbanding of the big east they have no other home for their other sports.

If the speculation about GT and UVA is correct,

Dec 18, 2012, 9:58 PM

VT to the SEC will happen fast. UNC, Duke and NC State will then search for lifeboats. UNC grad Big 10 Commissioner Jim Delaney will throw a lifeline to UNC and Duke. Then NC State will head for the SEC as Virginia Tech's partner.

UVA isn't leaving The ACC money isn't a problem at UVA. UVA fan base doesn't hate the acc like a lot of clemson fans.

Dec 18, 2012, 11:03 PM

You don't know they are not anymore than others know they will. You are just speculating in the air, like the rest of us. What we do KNOW is that their leaving the ACC for the Big 10 is being speculated in PRINT. We shall see.

You may have forgotten the recent statement by the .....

Dec 19, 2012, 12:54 AM

University presidents of the ACC? Idle speculation in print is all over but that was a direct statement from the powers that be.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

And I'd say the same thing publically if I was them. Talk to

Dec 19, 2012, 6:09 AM

GT people. They will tell you that they are hearing talk about Tech moving. Heck, one of them (Gosmitty) posts on here and, he will tell you that they are hearing this stuff. Hide your head in the sand all you want. But, there is something brewing.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

that statement was as worthless as the paper I wipe

Dec 19, 2012, 8:34 AM [ in reply to You may have forgotten the recent statement by the ..... ]

my hiney with....the only thing that would save the ACC at this point is a grant of rights that the conf retains a schools media rights. The ACC presidents are united as long as it benefits each of them INDIVIDUALLY. This isn't all for one and one for all. They all have INDIVIDUAL schools as their responsibility. Not the body as a whole.

...at least for OU. The OU admin right now isn't pro-SEC. OU preferred status quo, Pac and B1G.

Why would they go for 2 teams in the same state as their

final members?

More likely the SEC will add NC State , to go with their #1

Dec 19, 2012, 6:12 AM

target, Virginia Tech.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

and lose out on their #1 brand...

CLEMSON

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Can't win them all.

Dec 19, 2012, 10:40 AM

Besides, with the way the clemson fanbase talks bad about the SEC, you guys wouldn't be interested anyway.

Big 12 teams signed away their media rights?

Dec 19, 2012, 1:54 AM

I know it's a little obvious but big 12 teams could play in the sec but the big 12 would retain the TV right to the home games.

That's why they are the most solid conference out there now. Members can leave but they leave every penny behind.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpgringofhonor-clemsontiger1988-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

that's it....they can go but bring no additional value

Dec 19, 2012, 8:31 AM

with them...why the presidents of the ACC coming out last month was so useless saying we are united....if you are truly united you sign a GOR.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think that's incorrect...

Dec 19, 2012, 10:44 AM [ in reply to Big 12 teams signed away their media rights? ]

The GOR doesn't mean that if someone leaves the conference, they never get paid for being on TV. It just means that the Big 12 owns the rights.

For example, if Texas went to the Pac-12, the Big 12 would still have to pay Texas for being on TV. It would create an awkward situation, where the Big 12 would own rights to Texas games in the Pac-12, and they'd still have to pay Texas for those games. What would likely happen is that the B12 & Texas would negotiate, and Texas would eventually not have to get paid through the Big 12 for TV.

The important thing to remember is that the GOR is not a solid "lock 'em up and throw away the key" option. It doesn't turn any program into an indentured servant to a conference.

good read from a Kansas site on this subject

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Seems to verify my point...

Dec 19, 2012, 1:17 PM

The GOR doesn't mean Team A gets nothing if they go to Conference B.

If a team leaves the Big 12, they don't forfeit all of their TV money. They're still getting paid one way or another. The Pac or B1G might not like it, as the article points out. But then neither would the B12.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Oklahoma is not a big market. Relatively small population.

Dec 19, 2012, 9:16 AM

TV won't pony up as much $ because advertisers won't put up as much for commercials.
