If Dabo goes to Florida

Nov 17, 2014, 10:35 AM

I say we hire Jim McIlwain from Colorado State.

That guy is a dang fine coach and runs a GREAT offense that will sustain championship level play.

No, I think if that were to happen (an "if" so huge, it's really not worth even entertaining, but if...) I think we promote Venables to HC. The strides he's made in our defense is nothing short of miracle work. He deserves, and will get, a HC gig - we don't need to lose him.

Agree. Venables has done an unbelievable job***

Venables is a great Def Coordinator

Nov 17, 2014, 10:40 AM [ in reply to Re: If Dabo goes to Florida ]

But he doesn't strike me as a HC type. Too intense during the game.

HC has to be more level headed. Plus, hiring someone with HC experience is far less risky. Dabo was a HUGE risk. Luckily it turned out fine.

Yeah those intense defensive guys like Nick Saban always suck.

I'm thinking Veneables is more of a Will Muschamp type intense.

I disagree. If you watch Venables and Saban videos of practice they're very similar. I don't think intensity has any baring on how well a coach can do. Some thought Dabo was too intense.

Intensity is a bad thing? The greats that everyone throws out when a coaching gig comes available - Cowher? Gruden? Remember those guys?? They were about to explode every game. Know why? Because they demand perfection and they see even the smallest imperfections. I love intensity - that's a great thing. It means the coach is paying attention and striving to do better.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

cowher and gruden made their names in the nfl though. that

is an entirely different animal than the college game, especially with the recruiting and booster/fund raising functions.

NOW HEAR THIS ... Dabo is not going anywhere. I believe Clemson has captured his heart and is in his blood. MAYBE 'Bama when it opens, but even that is doubtful IMHO.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

it will be for a vacation.***

BYE

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Dabo wouldn't last 3 years at Florida. Here's why ...

Nov 17, 2014, 11:04 AM

In the SEC, things are different. University Presidents and Athletic Directors are under extreme pressure from alumni and major boosters to WIN FOOTBALL GAMES!!! Especially against your rival. If Dabo loses to FSU or UGA while at Florida, the hot seat begins NOW, not after you lose to them 5 years in a row. He would be tossed out with the garbage. At Clemson, we have different priorities .... like running clean programs, graduating players, and avoiding major scandals. Except if you are FSU and winning National Championships for the league, or UNC doing the same in Basketball.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I want BV

Nov 17, 2014, 11:04 AM

But we'd probably crap the bed and just pick Jeff Scott.

Re: If Dabo goes to Florida

Nov 17, 2014, 11:15 AM

If Rich Rodriguez is not the next HC at Florida I’ll be shocked.

Odds that UF hires Dabo---1 in a 1,000.

If they do hire Dabo…I hope Rich Rod is the first person called.

I would be highly disappointed with either BV or CM.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'm with you.

Nov 17, 2014, 11:19 AM

HC will bring in his own coordinators if BV decided to leave.

Give me Rich Rod or McIlwain. I prefer McIlwain because that guy coached Alabama to a NC and has CSU at 9-1.

Great poster.

Awful speculation. Not happening.

Nobody wants Dabs. God love 'em, and so do I to a point, but...he ain't going anywhere.

Dabo ain't going to UF. His worth is tied to CM and BV and odds are the family would get broken up before making it to Gainesville.
