In response to the Steve Fuller thread: to play devil's

advocate (and because I wasn't even born when Fuller was around), what if Tajh comes back next year, wins at least 10 games, beats the Coots, wins ACC, wins OB, goes in the top 15 picks AND has all the Clemson QB records.
Who's the best QB in Clemson history?
The OP in that thread cited record and draft to counter Tajh's numbers but Tajh is on pace to best all of that.

If he leads us to wins over SCAR this year and next, then

we can make legit comparisons with Fuller.
Clemson QBs who don't have winning records against SCAR?
Meh ...

That's circular reasoning though. player 1 does a ton of great things playing football for Clemson. For those accomplishments, we put him in the ROH. Then another player does a ton of great things playing football, breaks all of player 1's records, be the admin decides there's no more room in the ROH for whatever reason. Then we say, "but he's not as good as player 1, because he's not in the ROH"? The player doesn't DO anything to decide whether they're in the ROH, so that can't be used as evidence of one player being better than another.

I know we all hate to admit but theres a big difference between usuc teams the last few years and usuc teams of old. They won 16 games total between 75-78 when fuller was the starter.

made them look the last 3 years
there's no excuse to us getting slaughtered 3 straight years..........especially when we have comparable talent.
the last 3 years we've made the Clemson/SCar games look like a Vandy/Bama game

agreed but outside of last year I blame the OC...it still makes the point that we were MUCH better than them when fuller was qb.

if we are saying a QB is the "best clemson's ever had" then he shoulda been able to BEAT SCar........don't care if they were a good team or bad team............"great QBs" find a way to beat "Great Teams"

who saw Fuller play (such as myself) that anybody's better until/unless they go into the ROH also. Like you said, sicne you weren't even born you didn't have the chance to see him play and see how he lead the team and program.
Boyd is great - no doubt about it - is right behind Fuller IMO.

In that case, maybe. As I said below, its impossible to say

one person is "the best". Perhaps the most one can say is that a handful are at at the level.
But right now, today, Fuller does seem to stand a half step above in terms of both consistency and accomplishments. Fuller never had a half year where he got cocky / gained weight. He never had decision making issues. The tighter things got and the bleaker things looked, the better he played. Big games got big responses.
Frankly, cant yet say that about Boyd. And you can't exclude Whitehurst; he meets the Fuller benchmarks.

i think it needs to be the whole "body of work".....

consisting of
wins championships/bcs bowls beating SCar Stats
hypothetically if tajh wins out this year and goes 11-1/10-2 NEXT YEAR WHILE BEATING SCAR and another BCS bowl appearance he should be #1
should that happen he will be 32ish-6ish overall 1 championship (maybe 2, but shouldn't matter if he's going to BCS bowls and beatin SCar) 2-1 vs SCar basically every QB statistical record

"Best ever" - those are the two words that will .....
Nov 15, 2012, 9:38 AM

cause disagreement because how do you define it? Simply on records alone or by total effect on the football program?
They're both excellent QBs - no doubt about it but IMO Fuller stays on top unless Boyd makes it to the ROH. Now, if Boyd comes back and has the season/recognition a lot of people are saying he'll have his senior year then that may make the difference - will be interesting to see.

my bet is that if you ask Morris, "Beginning with Tulsa, what player most had you thinking 'this guy allows us to do everything we have in mind to do'?", I think the answer would be....Kelly.
That is just from practice comments, so who knows, but they are comments no Clemson qb has received in my memory.

Fuller is entirely over-hyped

as an NFL draft pick. He was a good college player in the system he was in. He was certainly a fine athlete and endeared himself to many here at Clemson. He had great surrounding players.
As for the NFL, he wasn't much.
