we could at least jettison the likes of Duke, and Wake. That would make room for schools like WVU, ND, Rutgers. We have too many schools in NC (no chance of ever drawing fans to watch marquis match-ups since populations can't support). 2 schools per state are plenty. I know that would probably never happen though.

Big 12 have secured 2 of the 4 spots. BIg 10 and Pac 10 are the other two. ACC is now left out. How will you compete as a major team if all the TV coverage and money is going to teams only in the Big 4?
ACC is done. It is a shock but things change.

Jettison Duke? Fat chance! Much of the reason the conference is the joke that it is is because Swofford's sole priority is trying to make sure people think the UNC - Duke basketball rivalry is God's favorite sporting rivalry of all time. Besides, if Duke were cut loose Duke Vitale would have a stroke.

...that we could cobble into such a league. There would need to be enough firepower to rival the current conferences, unless we wanted to eke out a living as a second-tier program.
Currently the choices would be:
Clemson
FSU
GTech
Miami
NC State (and it's REALLY unlikely the state legislature would let them jump)
VTech (and they may have to bring their cousins in Charlottesville along)
and the perennial gorilla Notre Dame.
We could poach Pitt from the emaciated carcass of the ACC, giving us 9 members. USF is an up and comer for 10.
But we need a few more, plus one more big gun to push us over the top. Would Penn State pitch in?
Who else worthwhile would join?

The new ACC is going to be a basketball-centered conference made up of those left behind from the ACC and Big East when the Big 12, SEC, and B1G take who they want.

speaking in "what ifs" . what we know is that the ACC is dead as a football conference just like the big east . We better latch on to some coat tails or start kissing South Carolina admin. ### to be in a football conference or we just become ECU.

The ACC would never get rid of Duke because Duke is a powerhouse in basketball...why don't people understand that?
