2018 Scholarships?

Dec 21, 2017, 9:46 PM

I thought I had heard 15 would be a generous number. I am guessing Justin Ross is an oversign and probably radley-hiles too. Assuming 17 signees, what would happen? Who would be asked to leave?

I’m sure they’re expecting NFL turnover as well.

I’m riding with Dabo and Co. ‘til the wheels fall off. Sure they have a plan.

Transfers are coming as well. They may sign 20.

Would love to sign 20. Any word on the street about who would transfer? Seems like the coaches were in agreement Hearn should leave. So I know the coaches have somthing up there sleeve. Would love to know what!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Never heard any word that the coaches were in agreement

Dec 21, 2017, 10:36 PM

on Hearn leaving. Not sure where we wind up, but as it stands now we are two over. Personally I have mixed feelings because the more we sign probably means the more we have leaving early.

I inferred that when Hearn said "Talking with Coach Swinney and Coach Caldwell we discussed it would probably be beneficial for me to come out this year,"

Tell me your thoughts?

No doubt about that!! Just hoping some of my fellow tiger faithful could offer some insight.

You rememeber all the guys that have had career ending injuries or didn't pan out since Dabo has been the coach?

He always honors their scholarships. No one is ever asked to leave.

I would expect you to know that being a fellow Tiger faithful

Dabo does once they get there degree. What did you think Adrian Baker leaving was about? the coaches told him they were going in a different direction and suggested he take is degree and play ball elsewhere.

Re: 2018 Scholarships?

Dec 21, 2017, 10:33 PM

Yeah that is BS. We had room for A. Baker this year.

That's a fair point. He would have exhausted eligibility this year anyway.

Dabo has said the scholarship deal is 4 years. The player doesn't owe the school a 5th year, and the school doesn't owe the player a 5th year.

Out of 27 Juniors playing, 13 already have their degree.
I would imagine that some will go to the NFL, and others will leave and take a job.

Your right. Just hard to imagine who. I think we have 12 actual scholarships to give. Hearn, wilkins, hyatt, and cle leaving would be 16. Maybe they think Falcinelli or Isreal is leaving?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Cain... and I wouldn't rule out Austin Bryant yet.***

Assuming Cle is gone. Austin Bryant leaving would hurt bad =(

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yep. Hoping to keep at least 1 of them and of course

Dec 21, 2017, 11:29 PM

Big Dex.

Me too. Keeping one DE could be the difference between a good dl and a great one

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I would be shocked if Israel stays.

Dec 21, 2017, 11:14 PM [ in reply to Re: 2018 Scholarships? ]

Assuming he wants to actually play. If he enjoys just being on the team, then he might stay.

I also won’t be surprised to see Cooper transfer. No way he’s playing with Bryant, Johnson, and now Lawrence on board.

I would be really surprised if a QB doesn't leave

Also not sure about Trevion Thompson sticking around. Also thought at one point that either Fuller or Choice would leave but they've all gotten snaps this year so maybe not.

Dec 21, 2017, 11:34 PM

Counting Dixon, that gives us 5 scholarship backs. That position is so thin it assures all backs will have playing time next year. At qb it's hard to tell if Isreal and Cooper are content with just being on the team

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: I would be really surprised if a QB doesn't leave

Dec 22, 2017, 12:13 AM

Israel might be. He had the whole stomach issue, and he doesn't have an NFL future. If he wants to get into coaching there's nobody better to learn from. If Cooper was ever going to be a starter he probably needed to win it this year, and he's already used his redshirt.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Israel will prob stay and exhaust his eligibility

Dec 22, 2017, 9:34 AM [ in reply to Re: I would be really surprised if a QB doesn't leave ]

at least from what I've heard. He loves Clemson and doesn't mind being a backup. He is one of those that will wind up being a GA or coaching for Clemson one day.

Currently we have 9 seniors/graduate players, Hearn is leaving so that is for sure 10.

We also have numerous juniors with degrees that may do the grad transfer to other schools.

Then you have the early departures, Wilkins is gone (would be dumb not to), Cain is likely gone, Hyatt could leave, I have a feeling Ferrel will stay based on his comments but 1st round money is hard to pass up.

All in all I'm sure the coaches will work it out.

The best recruits we get this year will be the guys that stay for another year ( you know, the ones yall are trying to run off early,to make room for the unknowns** )

Choice has his degree, I feel like 1 of Choice/Fuller will transfer.
