I'm a little confused as well. I always thought Scott was next in line. Now he's only co coordinator and not even calling plays. Got to trust coach though. He's made the right decisions up to this point.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I thought the decision years ago was that Scott was prepped

Dec 7, 2014, 7:50 PM

to take over, I wonder what changed.

I trust Dabo is making the right decision, he's really good at making the right hires.

Agree. Thought the same thing. But like you said he's made the right hires up to this point. Who know's, Dabo might be a freaking genius and elliot might kill it.

I have faith in both Elliott and Scott. Like I stated before, I hope during the bowl game Elliott keeps the pedal down and never let's up. If we can score 100 then do just that. Show the world that Clemson won't have any drop off in production. It'll also help any recruits that are wondering about our offensive identity with the new coordinators.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'll tell you why Ellliott over Scott

Dec 7, 2014, 10:57 PM

We need Jeff Scott for recruiting. If you let him show his abilities as a play caller, he won't last at Clemson more than a year or two more here before being hired by some other school. This way other schools will be much less likely to hire Jeff Scott in the near future. You are offering up Elliott to be hired away sooner by letting him call the plays now.

Both are really great recruiters...***

With Jeff being the recruiting coordinator though he may not be able to be as involved in the primary game prep as much as he would need to be to call plays. Recruiting coordinator, WR coach, and play caller would be a lot on a coaches plate for a veteran coach not to mention someone new to the OC spot. I say stick with has worked and let Scott focus on wr's and recruiting. If he continues to bring in top talent it really won't matter who is calling plays, we will have the athletes to make any play caller look like a genius.

I have put the pedal down when I was running on 6 cylinders

(instead of 8) before and the ol engine just didn't respond as well.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Why did you think that? Because some dude...

Dec 9, 2014, 7:29 AM [ in reply to I thought the decision years ago was that Scott was prepped ]

...on a website said so?

LOL, same guys last week were convinced the ECU OC was on his way here.

There's no such thing as a stupid question, just stupid people who ask questions.

Because for the past few years we've been hearing Morris

Dec 9, 2014, 4:28 PM

Talk about how Jeff Scott would make a great OC once he's gone, and that Scott was training to step up in the place when the time came and we needed him to

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think people may be reading more into that we should. I'm

Dec 8, 2014, 6:25 AM [ in reply to Re: I wonder why Elliot got it over Scott?*** ]

sure Jeff is still in the middle of what will be going on, these three have a plan going forward.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Well, you know he dedicated 4 years

of his life to the team and could have transferred.

So when a head has to roll it won't be Scott's...

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

well since everybody is guessing about why TE I'll join in

Dec 7, 2014, 8:24 PM

Maybe they have both rotated play calling duties since CM found out about SMU and TE has done a better job.

Dabo praised Elliot here in Charleston 2 years back

Dec 7, 2014, 9:04 PM

We were at the Yorktown for Dabo's annual talk. He pointed Coach Elliot out and said " that is a fine young coach right there".

Remember it like it was yesterday

If you watched the sidelines during the game

Dec 7, 2014, 9:30 PM

Elliot was usually always right in there with Morris and dabo the whole game and communicated with Morris constantly on the sidelines. I do not remember ever really seeing Scott around the other coaches and never recall seeing him talking to Morris (while Morris was calling in plays). Usually when you saw Scott (on tv) he was only with his wr's. Many times Morris would be calling in plays and Elliot would be in his ear yelling stuff to him.

It just seems like Elliot was a lot more involved with the offense and actual plays during the game and therefore would make sense for him to be named the play caller. Has anyone from the staff ever actually said that Jeff Scott was the OC in waiting or Morris's right hand man or anything like that?

I agree with everything you said plus Elliott was the primary coach helping Morris make adjustments at halftime. I believe Morris even said that.

That's a little bit of a surprise, however

Dec 8, 2014, 7:20 AM

Jeff Scott is still needed most in recruiting, where he is a genius. I think Tony Elliott has potential to be an incredible coach, so I'm good with this decision.

Re: FB Update: Swinney decides on play-caller for the Tigers

I think it is pretty obvious that TE is the run game coordinator and JS is the pass game coordinator. I also think it is obvious that TE will be on the field calling plays, while JS is needed in the box to decipher coverages. They both have strengths. And both will be involved heavily in game planning and play calling duties. TE simply gets to relay the message on the field.
