I was thinking the same. Makes no sense when you have a limit.**

You better believe if we were short on schollys Will Swinneys would be the first to go. If he earned it or not! And Will Swinney would gladly give it up if needed. Remember Dabo is all about walk ons getting year to year schollys... if he earned it, he earned it. And he is one of only a few that could do without if needed. Obviously not needed right now....

It's about 18k a year if your kid's in state and gets 10k in academic schollies .

Just to put things into perspective with tuition at Clemson these days, my daughter chose to go to a private out-of-state college over Clemson this year. Even with giving up the Palmetto Fellows scholarship and going out-of-state, the final out-of-pocket cost was about the same.

I feel the same way about Jake Venables. I wish they would just put something in there contracts saying there children get a full ride if they come to Clemson.

Was writing the same post. I mean I get he earned it and you want to reward him....but does “money” reward him/his family as much as the family that truly needs it? Not sure how I feel about scholarships going to kids of the some of the highest paid coaches in cfb...maybe it’s only fair it just comes across a little funny

It's a bad look and they should give those ships to kids with financial need.

I've heard that Clemson had some D@mn good players on full scholarships. Is there any truth to that?

I also heard that the score with the Coots VS Coastal Carolina was Coots 49, CC 15!!!

Thought Dabo said the coaches told him that Will earned the scholly and they wanted him to have one. It wasn't Dabo. Want to blame someone, blame the other coaches. You earn it, then you deserve it. Don't care if you have billions in the bank.

Sep 1, 2018, 4:43 PM

That in bending over, that 'dark' place isn't a hat, so don't do it!

Rest assured, Dabo and family will MORE than donate the value of one year's scholarship value to a more than worthy cause.

Good point, Judge.

The Financial Aid people break all grants, schollies and loans into two categories: Merit-based and Need-based. Merit is prioritized over Need.

In other words, if FFA is giving a Merit-based grant to the most worthy student majoring in the Ag Sciences, the FA folks must give it to the most worthy student. The #3 student may have more need, but will only receive funds they qualify for. Many grants are allowed to take both Need and Merit into consideration, but the Merit requirement has a minimum standard stipulation.

Athletic schollies are entirely Merit-based. So if the coaches feel the standard has been met, what criteria can we use to argue? "But there is a less worthy person with greater need!" Um--less worthy, right?

Sure, you can voice your opinion that someone else could use it more, but since it's ill-informed opinion, you'll get just as much credibility as you deserve. None.

It is amazing that previous holders that did as good if not better did not get scholarships. Just look back on Seth Ryan.

Yes he does so his dad can buy him a car and funnel spending money his way.
