or did we tell him we couldn't take him and that he was free to say whatever he chose to say about it?

I know there would be nothing official said about it from Clemson but usually someone knows what really happened.

I'm afraid he would be third team or lower at Clemson. That's what made me wonder if they were covering for the fact that he didn't actually have an offer.

Correct. And further said Bud Foster was best defensive coordinator in the country and would provide the best opportunity to get his kid in the NFL

He had a better relationship with Bud Foster and it was closer to home I think. Unfortunate cause he can ball.

He's from Shelby,NC. Clemson is much closer.

Actually Shelby NC is 60 miles closer to Clemson. But your comment concerning his relationship and Dad is spot on.

Stanford to go to VPI. I guess playing time is playing time for him (or his dad) regardless of whether you’re on a team that will even go bowling.
